Brincks Exteriors Sports Report: Kuemper Falls to Top Ranked West Lyon in Quarterfinals

The game slipped away from Kuemper in the 2nd quarter as West Lyon scored 35-points to lead 42-7 at half. The Knights had a good offensive game plan and executed it to perfection on their opening drive but a pair of turnovers and two quick three and outs and the defense was on  the field against a physical offense that was able to run the ball effectively. The Wildcats averaged 7.7-yards per carry, scoring four rushing touchdowns. 

The Knights nearly had a stop on the opening drive, forcing West Lyon to 3rd and 20. They completed a pass for 30-yards, setting up a 7-yard touchdown run by Evan Hildring, putting them up 7-0 with 5:47 left in the 1st quarter. The Knights defense made it tough on the Wildcats, taking them 12-plays to score. The Knights offense answered with a well executed drive. Kuemper used short passes to keep the Wildcats aggressive front from getting pressure on Brock Badding. The Knights slowly marched down the field, then hit for a big play as Carson Kanne hit Tregan Beiter for a 38-yard pass on a halfback pass. The completion set them up at the Wildcats 2-yard line and Jarin Hoffman punched it in two-plays later tying the game at 7 with 1:39 left in the half. The Knights ate up the clock, using 10-plays to score.  West Lyon responded on their second drive, scoring on a 20-yard run by Jaxan Huyser with 10:04 left in the half. The game completely turned on Kuemper’s next possession. Brock Badding tried to find a receiver across the middle and the ball was intercepted by Carson Hoogeveen, who returned it 53-yards for a touchdown, pushing the lead to 21-7. Kuemper had a chance to keep it close but a three and out gave the Wildcats the ball back quickly. They took advantage with Tate Hawf scoring on a 1-yard run. A second interception by Carson Hoogeveen set up another touchdown, this time a 15–yard run by Tate Hawf and the Wildcats pushed the lead to 35-7. They would strike again after the Knights were forced to punt with a three and out. Bryson Childress found Jorden Meyer for a 51-yard touchdown on the first play of their drive. The pass down the sideline pushed the lead to 42-7 with 1:49 left in the half. West Lyon had scored 35-points in just over 8:00 of game time. 

The 2nd half started well for the Knights as the offense got going, moving down the field. On the twelve play of the drive, Carson Hoogeveen made his third interception of the game at the Wildcats 12-yard line. Three plays later Bryson Childress hit Jorden Meyer for a 68-yard touchdown. The Wildcats led 49-7 with 2:40 left in the 3rd quarter and were able to rest their starters for the remainder of the game. The Knights offense found a rhythm early in the 4th quarter, establishing their run game with Jarin Hoffman scoring on a 25-yard run up the middle. 

Carson Kanne caught 5 passes for 39-yards and went 1-1 passing the ball for 38-yards. Ryan Lucas added 6 catches for 31-yards while Brock Badding went 18-31 passing for 99-yards. Tregan Beiter finished with 4 receptions for a team high 47-yards. Jarin Hoffman ran for 61-yards and both Kuemper touchdowns. Kent Sanders had a team high 7.5 tackles with Brayton Alford finishing with 7 tackles.

The Knights ended their season with a district championship and a 9-2 mark, having won 9 straight games.
