Kuemper made a nice adjustment in set two, after Wahlert Catholic gave them looks they hadn’t seen on film. The Knights struggled to get touches, and the Golden Eagles hurt them down line in the opening set, using a 7-0 run to go up 15-8. The Knights would pull within four at 17-13 but Wahlert Catholic was in a rhythm offensively and kept serving down the lines against the Knights. The Knights adjusted between sets and were able to get more touches and blocks in set two, helping them to a 6-0 run, putting them up 21-12, their largest lead of the match. The Knights took set two and appeared poised to go up two sets to one with a 22-19 lead in set three. Olivia Donovan pulled the Golden Eagles back into the match and they stole set three with a 6-1 run. Wahlert Catholic went up 3-0 to start set four and never trailed, building a nine-point lead at 21-12.
Wahlert Catholic went up 2-0 in set one but Kolbi Peter and Alivia Schenkelberg had back-to-back kills, tying the set at two. Brianna Wittrock kept them close with a pair of kills, but the Golden Eagles maintained a lead. Mariah Heuton pulled the Knights within 8-7 and Kuemper tied the set at 8. Wahlert Catholic went on a 7-0 run, taking a 15-8 and held Kuemper at bay the rest of the set, closing it with a 4-0 run to win 25-18.
A quick point by Wahlert Catholic put them up 1-0 in set two but the Knights stormed back scoring six in a row with a Brianna Wittrock kill and an ace from Elsa Tiefenthaler. Wittrock added two more kills and Kuemper led 7-2. Wahlert Catholic rallied, cutting the deficit to 10-8 but Mariah Heuton had a couple kills, pushing Kuemper in front 14-8. Addy Anthofer kept the Knights in front with a kill, Elsa Tiefenthaler added a pair of aces around kills from Brianna Wittrock, Kolbi Peter and Aliva Schenkelberg. The Knights went up 21-12 but the Golden Eagles didn’t quit. They cut the Kuemper lead to 22-21 but Kuemper scored three of the next four-points to win 25-22.
Kuemper scored twice to start set three and went up 5-3 on a pair of kills from Mariah Heuton. Kolbi Peter extended the lead to 8-5 and Brianna Wittrock made it 9-6 with a kill. Wahlert Catholic tied the set at 9 but Brianna Wittrock had a kill, making 10-9. The match was tied three times total in sets one and two combined and had changed leads just once going into the third set. Wahlert tied set three for the second time at 10 and took a 12-10 lead. Brianna Wittrock had a kill, followed by Mariah Heuton and the Knights tied it at 12. After a pair of Golden Eagle points, Mariah Heuton had a pair of kills, tying the set at 14. It would tie again at 15, 16 and 18. The Knights grabbed a 19-18 lead, and a Kolbi Peter kill pushed it to 21-18. Olivia Donovan headed back to the service line and served Wahlert Catholic back into the match, tying it at 22 and giving them a 24-22 lead. Brianna Wittrock pulled Kuemper within 24-23 with a kill but Wahlert Catholic snuck out a win in set three and led two sets to one. Set three featured seven ties and three lead changes.
The Golden Eagles went up 3-0 to start set four, building a 6-2 lead. Alivia Schenkelberg pulled Kuemper within 6-3 and Kuemper got as close at 8-7 but Dubuque Wahlert answered the call with a run, going up 16-10. Brianna Wittrock kill, pulled Keumper within 16-11 but the Golden Eagles stretched it to 19-11. Karsyn Overmohle gave Kuemper some late life with an ace, but the Knights trailed 21-14 and fell in set four, 25-17.
Elsa Tiefenthaler was huge all-around for Kuemper, finishing with 27 assists, 17 digs and 3 aces. Kaylie Simons was everywhere in the back row, diving all over the court, ending the match with 23 digs and 4 assists. Brianna Wittrock had a team high 19 kills along with 9 digs and 3 blocks. Mariah Heuton added 10 kills with Kolbi Peter adding 9 kills. Brooke Rohe was tremendous in serve receive and had 14 digs.
The Knights end the season 37-4.
