South Central Calhoun heads to the Regional Finals on Wednesday after a come from behind 3-1 win over MVAOCOU in the Regional Semifinals. The Titans played well in set one but MVAOCOU was confident, getting to plays and aggressive at the net. The opening set had three ties and one lead change but the Rams didn’t trail ater falling behind 1-0. They took a one set to nothing lead, but thing changed in set two. The Titans became aggressive at the net on offense and more importantly on defense. South Central Calhoun took control of set two midway through the set and rolled the rest of the match. They only trailed once the rest of the match, down 1-0 in set four. They were only tied once after extending the lead in set two, tying the Rams in set four at 1. Brenna McAlsiter and Jayci Graeve took over on offense, getting help from Sadie Wheelock while Graeve, Wheelock, Kaitlyn O’Neill and Blair Schleisman put the clamps on the Rams at the net on defense.
Brenna McAlister had a kill to open the match, putting the Titans up 1-0. MVAOCOU tied the set at 1 and built a 6-2 lead. Jayci Graeve and Brenna McAlister each had a few kills but the Rams kept the lead between two and five points. MVAOCOU led 17-12 when the Titans got the serve and Brooklyn Pruitt went back to serve. Jayci Graeve had a kill and Brenna McAlister had back-to-back kills, cutting it to 17-15. The Rams called timeout but the Titans scored out of the timeout and Brooklyn Pruitt followed up with an ace serve, tying the set at 17. MVAOCOU went on a 3-0 run and kept the lead the rest of the set, winning 25-21.
Jayci Graeve had a kill to start set two and the Titans never trailed. MVAOCOU tied the set at 2, 6, 7, 8 and 9 but the Titans kept holding them off. South Central Calhoun went on a 5-0 run to lead 14-9 and held off a Ram run as they cut the Titans lead to 17-15. The Titans held them off with Brenna McAlister having four kills down the stretch, including three straight kills to make it 24-19. The Titans tied the match at one apiece with a 25-20 win.
Brenna McAlister started set three with a kill and the Titans went up 8-1 with a ace from Norah Riedesel, followed by a kill from Blair Schleisman. MVAOCOU pulled within 9-6 but Jayci Graeve and Nicole Meyer scored back-to-back and the Titans never looked back. They went up 21-7, then 23-8 on an ace from Alexa Holm. The Titans dominated the set, winning 25-10.
MVAOCOU went up 1-0 in set four and Jayci Graeve tied it with a kill. The Titans took the lead, getting an ace from Norah Riedesel and a kill from Sadie Wheelock, making 6-1. The Rams fought back, pulling within 7-6 but Jaycie Graeve had a big kill, stopping the run. A Brenna McAlister kill followed by an ace from Nicole Meyer pushed the lead to 11-6. South Central Calhoun controlled the set, ending it with Brenna McAlister having four straight kills, including the match ending kill.
Brenna McAlister and Jayci Graeve both had 18 kills with Graeve adding 16 digs and 3 big blocks. McAlister had 10 digs. Norah Riedesel finished with 37 assists and a pair of aces. Alexa Holm had 13 digs, Sadie Wheelock added 3 blocks with Macie Dorman finishing with 3 aces.
The Titans improved to 28-11 and will play Denver At Iowa Falls on KIKD 106.7 on Wednesday in the Regional Final.
