The East Sac defense was terrific on Friday night, holding Woodward Granger to 14-points entering the 4th quarter, giving the Raiders a chance for a playoff road win. They held Woodward Granger to 220-yards on the ground and 5.4-yards per carry and forced a pair of turnovers. The offense had some success in the air, throwing the ball for 124-yards but the Raiders struggled to get the running game established, finishing with 5-yards on 16 carries. East Sac scored in the 3rd quarter and trailed by eight entering the final stanza.
A Raider fumble set up the first points of the game as Woodward Granger took advantage of an East Sac fumble and went 39-yards in four plays, scoring on a 25-yard pass. They led 7-0 entering the 2nd quarter. The Raiders offense was stymied most of the 1st half. Their best possession came at the end of the half, going 39-yards on 6-plays before the half ended. East Sac fumbled on their opening drive, then punted on their next four drives. The defense held firm with Sam Julin recovering a fumble and holding the Hawks on downs after the early touchdown. Woodward Granger caught a break late in the half, running a hurry-up offense, they struck for a 37-yard touchdown pass to lead 14-0 at half.
Carson Schmitt picked off a Hawks pass on the opening drive of the 2nd half and the Raiders appeared to be in business. They picked up a first down but fumbled the ball and Woodward Granger recovered. The defense forced a quick three and out and East Sac had good field position at their own 48-yard line. They controlled the ball, methodically moving the ball down field, setting up a 8-yard pass from Sam Julin to Asher Lawler. The Raiders pulled within 14-6 heading to the 4th quarter. Woodward Granger responded on their next possession. Going 59-yards on 7-plays, extending the lead to 21-6 on a 1-yard run. The Hawks forced a Raiders punt, adding a 5-yard touchdown with 3:44 left in the game to put it out of reach.
The Raiders played well against a district champ on the road and Coach McCollough was proud of the effort his kids gave all season. Sam Julin had 124-yards passing with a touchdown with Asher Lawler making 6 catches for 51-yards and a touchdown. Gabe King was huge on defense with 16 tackles, 15 of them were solo. Calvin Chedester added 10 tackles with all 10 solo. Jack Gullett had 9.5 tackles.
The Raiders end the season at 3-6.
