The Audubon Wheelers pick up a convincing win on Friday in the opening round of the 8-man playoffs against East Mills. Audubon scored four touchdowns in their first seven offensive plays in the win. The Wheelers were able to rest most of their starters halfway through the second quarter to avoid injuries. The Wheelers go the ball to start the game. On their first offensive play, Carson Wessel ran 56 yards for a touchdown to put Audubon up 8-0 just under 30 seconds into the game. The Audubon secondary played great in the win as they forced three turnovers early in the game. On East Mills’ first offensive possession, Jack Stanerson would come away with an interception for the Wheelers. Audubon took over with a great field position. On fourth and ten, Wessel found Brody Weber open as the Wheeler would extend their lead to 14-0. Audubon added a couple of more touchdowns in the first quarter as they would lead 30-0 going to the second. Early in the second quarter, Aaron Olsen would find the endzone on a ten-yard rushing touchdown as the Wheelers would lead 38-0. Audubon would lead 38-0 at the half.
Neither team scored in the third quarter, with mostly backups playing for the Wheelers in the second half. East Mills scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter on a busted coverage, getting on the board to make the score 38-7. Neither team scored again the rest of the game, as the Wheelers would go on to win 38-7.
The Wheelers had just over 160 yards of total offense in the game. Carson Wessel was great running and throwing the football for the Wheelers. Wessel was 2-2 for 45 yards and two touchdowns through the air. Wessel added 71 yards and a couple more touchdowns on the ground in the win. Aaron Olsen had the other touchdown for the Wheelers. As a team, Audubon had five sacks on defense. Colton Hansen had three total tackles with a couple of sacks. With the win Audubon advances to take on Woodbine at home on Friday on 93.7 KKRL. The win improves the Wheeler’s record to 9-0.
