Kuemper moves on with a 3-0 sweep of Harlan in the quarterfinals of Class 3A Region 7, cruising in all three sets. They never trailed and were only tied once in the match, that coming early in set three. The lead grew to 10 in set one, 9 in set 2 and 14 in the final set. Kuemper served well with five aces in set one and was balanced at the net with five hitters between four and ten kills. 

Brianna Wittrock earned an overpass kill to start the match as Kuemper built a 3-0 lead. Back-to-back aces from Elsa Tiefenthaler put Kuemper up 7-1 before Harlan settled in. They cut the Kuemper lead to 8-5. Kuemper answered with kills from Mariah Heuton and Addy Anthofer and an ace from Kaylie Simons, going up 12-7. Zoe Brunning made it 14-8 with a kill with Kolbi Peter and Brianna Wittrock had back-to-back kills, stretching the lead to 17-11. Kuemper built their biggest lead with a kill from Mariah Heuton and an ace from Kolbi Peter. Karsyn Overmohle ended the set with a kill, followed by an ace. 

Kuemper went up 2-0 to start set two with a kill from Kolbi Peter and an ace from Elsa Tiefenthaler. The lead grew to 5-2 with Alivia Schenkelberg having two kills and Brianna Wittrock serving an ace. Harlan snuck back in, pulling within 7-5 but Kuemper responded with Zoe Brunning an ace and Addy Anthofer had a kill. Kolbi Peter had a pair of kills mixed in with Brianna Wittrock kill as the Knights went up 13-7. They stretched the lead to 17-8 but Harlan came out of a timeout with a run, pulling within 18-14. Kolbi Peter gave Kuemper the momentum back, having a kill, making it 20-14 and 22-15. Alivia Schenkelberg ended the set with a 25-19 kill. 

Harlan tied set three at 1 before Kuemper pulled away with a kill from Elsa Tiefenthaler, followed by her serving an ace. Alivia Schenkelberg had a kill with Tiefenthaler adding her second kill with Kaylie Simons serving an ace and Brianna Wittrock with a kill, making it 7-2 Kuemper. The Knights maintained a lead between six and nine points until Kolbi Peter had a kill, making it 17-9. The Knights got kills from Brianna Wittrock and Kolby Peter, making it 23-11 with Kaylie Simons ace pushing it to match point. The Knights went on to win 25-11 and set up a match with Des Moines Christian in the Regional Semifinals. 

Kolbi Peter paced the Knights balanced attack with 10 kills, Brianna Wittrock added 9 kills with Mariah Heuton with 8 kills. Elsa Teifenthaler had 21 assists, going over 1,000 in her career. Tiefenthaler added 5 digs and 4 aces. Brianna Wittorck had a team high 4 blocks with Zoe Brunning and Alivia Schenkelberg both with 2 blocks. Kaylie Simons had a team high 14 digs and 3 aces. Karsyn Overmohle added 12 assists. 

The Knights improved to 35-3 and will host Des Moines Christian on KIKD on Thursday.

Carroll vs Denison-Schleswig

The Carroll Tigers picked up a big win over Denison-Schleswig as they advanced to the Class 4A Region 5 semi-finals on Thursday. The first set was tied ten different times. Denison-Schleswig would take a 19-18 advantage in the first set as they would go on to win 25-21 over Carroll. Carroll served the ball well all night. The second set was the only set not to be tied at any point. The Tigers would build an early lead because of their serve and would go on to win 25-7. With the win in the second set, Carroll would even the match up at 1-1. Denison-Schleswig would take an 8-7 lead in the third set. The Tigers would trail most of the set by two or three and were never able to get over the hump as they dropped the set 25-23. 

Carroll would make adjustments in the fourth set but it was still close as the Tigers came out on top 25-23. The Carroll win in the fourth set would even the match up at 2-2, sending it to a winner-take-all fifth set. The fifth set was tied eight different times. Carroll would tie the set up at 6-6. The set would again be tied at ten. Carroll took a 12-11 lead and went on to win 15-11 in the fifth set. With the win, Carroll would knock off Denison-Schleswig 3-2. 

Carroll was aggressive at the net all match, recording 45 kills as a team. Olivia Rowedder had a team-high 15 kills in the win. Katelyn Aden and Analia Ayala also had double-digit kills for the Tigers. Aden chipped in 13 kills, and Ayala had ten. As a team, Carroll also picked up 11 blocks. Amanda Wardell recorded four blocks for the Tigers. With the win, Carroll improves to 18-17. The Tigers are back in action on Thursday against Lewis Central.
