Audubon rolled to an undefeated regular season and district season with a convincing win on the road. The Wheelers started quickly, leading 22-6 at the end of the 1st quarter and never looked back. The duo of Aaron Olsen and Carson Wessel ran for over 100-yards each with Wessel finishing with 129-yards on 14-carries and a touchdown while Olsen had 14-carries for 107-yards and four touchdowns. The Wheelers controlled the game up front, only having to throw the ball eight times for 25-yards. They ran for 289-yards, averaging 6.9-yards per carry with seven rushing touchdowns. The Audubon defense was just as sharp, intercepting three Bolts passes with Aaron Olsen nabbing two interceptions and Adam Obrecht the other.
The Wheelers running game helped them build and early led as the defense played a strong game, setting up the offense with short fields. The Wheelers scored on their first drive but Baxter answered. Audubon pushed the lead to 30-6 in the 2nd quarter and had a chance to extend it before half. The defense made three stops, two with interceptions, setting the offense up in Bolts territory but Audubon turned it over on downs twice and penalties backed them up on the other possession, forcing them to punt.
Baxter scored early in the 3rd quarter, pulling within 30-14 but the Wheelers settled back in with their running game, extending the lead to 50-14. The Wheelers substituted some younger players with continuous clock. The Bolts scored a pair of late touchdowns, one coming off a blocked punt.
Carson Wessel had 129-yards rushing with a touchdown and Aarson Olsen added 107-yards and four touchdowns. Mason Kasperbauer added 63-yard rushing on 8 carries with a pair of touchdowns. Colin Hartl paced the defense with 8.5 tackles with 7 of them solo.
The win improves Audubon to 8-0 overall and 6-0 in the district. They host East Mills on Friday on 93.7 KKRL in the opening round of the playoffs.
