An Atlantic run in set one and a late win in set two snapped Exira-EHK seven game winning streak on Monday. The Spartans led early in sets one and two, leading 3-0 in set one and 5-3 in set two but Atlantic chipped away in both sets, taking the lead at 7-6 in set one and 6-5 in set two. Exira-EHK pulled even late in set two and took a brief lead but the Trojans responded and scored seven of the last ten points to take a two sets to none lead. Atlantic started hot in set three and the Spartans had one of those sets where nothing went right.

Taryn Petersen opened the match with a push kill to the deep corner and Jaelynn Petersen and Riley Miller had a block, helping the Spartans build a 3-0 lead. Atlantic scored two in a row but Exira-EHK responded and a Jaelynn Petersen kill stretched the lead to 5-2. Atlantic fought back, tying the set at 5 and taking their first lead at 7-6. Jaelynn Petersen, Mayne Jorgensen and Taryn Petersen all had a kill as Exira-EHK stayed within a couple points. They tied the set at 12 but Atlantic went on a 10-1 run to lead 22-13. Jaelynn Petersen had a kill to cut it to 23-15 but the Trojans went on to win 25-15.

An ace serve from Taryn Petersen put Exira-EHK up 1-0 in set two. The set went back and forth until Jaelynn Petersen put the Spartans up 5-3 with a kill. Atlantic went on a 3-0 run, grabbing a 6-5 lead. They stretched their lead to 12-7 but Taryn Petersen had a kill igniting Exira-EHK and Jaelynn Petersen pulled them within 13-11 with a kill. Mayne Jorgensen tied the set at 14 with a kill but Atlantic went back up 16-14. Back-to-back kills by Taryn Petersen tied the set at 17 and Exira-EHK grabbed a brief lead at 18-17 but Atlantic responded with a 4-0 run and never trailed again, winning 25-21. The Spartans pulled within 21-20 on a kill by Taryn Petersen and an ace from Mayne Jorgensen.

Atlantic went up 5-0 to start the third set and Exira-EHK struggled getting started. The Trojans took advantage, pulling away to win 25-7. Taryn Petersen had two kills in the set and Jaelynn Petersen had one kill.

The Spartans fell to 12-4 on the season and will head to the Rolling Valley Conference Tournament on Saturday at West Harrison.

Western Iowa Conference Tournament 

IKM-Manning At Treynor

IKM-Manning battled hard in sets one and three but fell just shy as Treynor earned a 3-0 win in the opening round of the Western Iowa Conference Tournament. The Wolves hit .157 at the net with Keagan Eischeid and Addisyn Bandow leading them. Bandow hit .312, ending with 7 kills and Eischeid had 8 kills while hitting .227. Karlee Arp dished out 18 assists with four different Wolves collecting at least one kill. Anna Stangl paced the back row which battled, finishing with 16.7 digs per set. Stangl had a team high 14 digs with Grace Carroll adding 10 digs and Keagan Eischeid had 9 digs. Carroll also had a strong night defensively at the net with 4 of the teams 6 blocks.

The Wolves slip to 10-15 on the season and will head to Missouri Valley on Tuesday for the consolation brackets of the WIC Tournament.

The Wheelers played better in every set but fell short in the opening round of the Western Iowa Conference Tournament, losing to Tri Center in three. The Wheelers lost set one 25-11, battled to a 25-15 loss in set two, then closed the gap in set three, falling 25-17. Harlow Miller led the attack at the net with 8 kills and a .118 efficiency. Anna Larsen hit .333 and Abby Wanser hit .250 as both had 2 kills, Larsen added 14 assists. Kadence Brannan-Sporrer had a strong night in the back row, pacing the Wheelers with 12 digs with Briley Belnap and Harlow Miller both having 5 digs. Miller had a team high 2 blocks with the Wheelers having 4 blocks. Alissa Testroet and Anna Larsen both had an ace.

Audubon falls to 7-19 and will head to Missouri Valley on Tuesday in the Consolation Brackets of the Western Iowa Conference Tournament.
