Brincks Exteriors Sports Report: Kuemper and Ar-We-Va Competed At Tournaments on Saturday

Volleyball Results Saturday, October 12th 

Kuemper At Hampton-Dumont Tournament 

Kuemper earned a tournament championship on Saturday, winning their pool with a 6-1 set record against Iowa Falls (22-20), Charles City (21-11, 16-21, 15-7) and Independence (21-11, 21-13). The Knights dropped just the one set against Charles City though they hit .224 and held the Comets to .000 kill efficiency and 15 kills. Kuemper had 8 aces in the win over the Comets with Elsa Tiefenthaler having 3 aces. The Knights serving kept the Comets out-of-system and helped them finish with 5 blocks, led by Mariah Heuton with 2. Kuemper advanced into the semifinals against Roland Story, a rematch from earlier this season. Kuemper beat the Norsemen for the second time this year, winning 21-17, 21-15. Roland Story out hit the Knights .186 to .173 but the Knights had one more kill, edging them 19 to 18. Brianna Wittrock led a balanced attack at the net with 5 kills with Addy Anthofer hitting .750 on 3 kills. Wittrock was a huge part of the Knights defenses, finishing with 5 of their 8 blocks. Kuemper also served well with 8 aces on 92.9% efficiency. The Knights serve receive was strong, allowing only 2 Norsemen aces. The finals pitted Kuemper against Ankeny Christian, the top ranked team in Class 1A. Kuemper dropped the opening set 21-15 but battled back, winning set two 21-18 and edging the Eagles 15-13 in the third set. Brianna Wittrock and Mariah Heuton came up big hitting with Wittrock having 10 kills on .292 efficiency and Heuton adding 8 kills. Elsa Tiefenthaler had a good rhythm with her hitters, finishing with 14 assists. Alivia Schenkleberg was strong at the net with a team high 4 blocks and Kaylie Simons finished with 23 of the Knights 51 digs.

Mariah Heuton paced the offense for the day with 31 kills with Brianna Wittrock adding 28 kills.  Kolbi Peter had 23 kills, Addy Anthofer 13 kills and Alivia Schenkelberg 12 kills. Elsa Tiefenthaler paced the setters with 54 assists with Karsyn Overmohle adding 37 assists and Kaylie Simons finishing with 10 assists. Simons had a big day in the back row with 67 digs with Brooke Rohe having 21 digs, Brianna Wittrock having 14 digs and Karsyn Overmohle with 13 digs. Wittrock had a huge day defensively at the net, pacing Kuemper with 16 blocks with Alivia Schenkelberg adding 7 blocks and Mariah Heuton with 6 blocks. Elsa Tiefenthaler continues to serve strong, led Kuemper with 9 aces with Brianna Wittrock adding 5 aces.

The Knights went 5-0 on matches and 10-2 in sets on Saturday, improving to 33-2 overall as they host Harlan on Tuesday on KIKD 106.7.

Ar-We-Va At CAM Tournament 

Ar-We-Va dropped all three matches on Saturday against Riverside, which is ranked 4th in Class 1A, Griswold and ACGC. The Rockets struggled in the opening set against both Riverside and Griswold but battled hard in the second set in both matches, falling 21-14 in both matches. They fought hard on Saturday, showing good improvement and competed well against a strong ACGC team, falling 21-12 and 21-10.

Gabrielle Hundling and Annalee Wittrock paced the Rockets with both having 5 kills. Amber Ragaller had 18 assists to go with 11 digs. Emma Leiting led them with 17 digs with Azaya Martinez adding 10 digs and a team high 2 aces. Morgan Berg and Hallie McCollough both had 3 kills.

The Rockets fall to 1-22 on the season and head to West Harrison on Saturday for the Rolling Valley Conference Tournament.
