The Carroll Tigers picked up their first conference win of the season as they beat Gilbert in four sets at home on Tuesday. The first set was the best set of the match as it was tied ten different times. The Tigers would jump out to a 5-4 to start the set. Both teams would go back and forth as Carroll would grab the lead again at 15-14 and would end the set on a 10-5 run to win 25-19. With the first set win, Carroll would take an early 1-0 lead over Gilbert. Carroll was aggressive at the net all night. Gilbert would never trail in the second set as they went on to win 25-20, evening the match up at 1-1. Needing a win, Carroll would come out in the third set and build an early lead at 14-7. The Tigers would go on to win the set 25-17. In the fourth set, Carroll would never trail as they went on to win 25-21 and pick up a 3-1 victory over Gilbert. 

Katelyn Aden led the Tigers in kills with 14, and Olivia Rowedder chipped in 13 kills in the win. Carroll did a great job in serve-receive, totaling 72 digs. Marasyn Wittrock led Carroll in digs with 19. Emily Puck was great at working the ball to different hitters, recording 31 assists. As a team, Carroll also recorded eight blocks. With the win, Carroll moves to 16-15. The Tigers are back in action on Thursday against Bondurant-Farrar.

IKM-Manning At Riverside

IKM-Manning dropped a match against 2nd ranked Riverside on the road on Tuesday, holding the lead once and tying the match twice. The Wolves hung close but gave up 7-0 runs in sets one and two to trail by 10 and 9 in those sets respectively. They battled back in the 3rd set after falling behind by 11, they pulled within 5 on a Grace Carroll kill. Riverside is a good serving team and finished with 7 aces and a 90.4% service efficiency. Their serve kept the Wolves out-of-system most of the match.

Keagan Eischeid put IKM-Manning up 1-0 in set one but Riverside quickly scored twice and led. A Katelyn Bandow block tied the set at 2 but the Bulldogs pushed the lead to 4 and it stayed around three to five points until Katelyn Bandow had a kill to make it 10-7 Bulldogs. Riverside stretched the lead to five again but Keagan Eischeid had a kill, followed by a kill from Grace Carroll, pulling the Wolves to 14-11. Riverside put the first set away with a 7-0 run, led by a couple aces from Bentley Rone. Addisyn Bandow had a pair of kills late for IKM-Manning as they crept within 23-16.

The Bulldogs went up 4-0 to start set two but the Wolves kept battling, and cut a 10-4 deficit to 11-10 as Addisyn Bandow had a pair of kills, followed by back-to-back aces from Karlee Arp. Riverside responded with a 8-0 run and led 19-10. The Wolves got a kill from Keagan Eischeid and one from Addisyn Bandow but fell 25-15 to fall behind two sets to none.

A Bulldog 3-0 lead started the third set and they built the lead to 11-4. Katelyn Bandow had a kill to pull IKM-Manning within 11-6 but Riverside stretched it to 18-7. Addisyn Bandow had a kill and Keagan Eischeid had back-to-back kills, pulling IKM-Manning 19-10. The Wolves went on a 4-0 run late with Anna Stangl ace and a Grace Carroll kill, pulling them within 21-16. A 3-0 Bulldog run clinched the match for Riverside.

Keagan Eischeid and Addisyn Bandow both had 7 kills with Eischeid making 12 digs. Karlee Arp led them with 18 assists and a pair of aces. Anna Stangl had 17 digs with Grace Carroll adding 10 digs.

The Wolves fall to 9-14 overall and 0-6 in the Western Iowa Conference. They head to Audubon on 93.7 KKRL on Thursday.

The Spartans won their sixth straight match, pulling within a 1/2 game of Boyer Valley for the lead in the Rolling Valley Conference. The Bulldogs slipped past Coon Rapids Bayard, improving to 7-1 in the league while the Spartans 3-1 win over CAM moved them to 6-1 in the league with a game left on Thursday at home against West Harrison. The Spartans dropped a long first set, falling 27-25 but were swinging well and playing well in the back row. They rebounded well, taking control of the match in set two, winning 25-10, grabbing all the momentum. The Spartans held that momentum in set three, winning 25-15 with Jaelynn Petersen exploding at the net. She finished with 20 kills to lead their offensive attack but wasn’t the only player swinging well. Taryn Petersen added 8 kills, Riley Miller had 6 kills and Mayne Jorgensen added 4 kills. That depth helped them pull out a 25-22 win in the fourth set to win the match. Brooklyn Flathers and Riley Miller did an outstanding job of keeping the CAM defense guessing where they were going, getting their hitters a good look. Flathers had 15 assists with Miller adding 12 assists. The Spartans had a strong night in the back row, led by 18 digs from Taryn Petersen with Zoey Rasmussen adding 16 assists and Mayne Jorgensen finishing with 11 digs. Exira-EHK had 9 aces with Taryn Petersen finishing with 4 and Jaelynn Petersen and Brooklyn Flathers both having 2 aces.

The Spartans are 11-3 overall and 6-1 in the conference going into Thursday’s home match with West Harrison.

A team that has battled injuries this season appears to be getting comfortable with the lineup changes, earning a sweep at West Harrison, stretching their winning streak to three in a row. The Wildcats edged the Hawkeyes in the opening set, then controlled sets two and three to earn their nineth win of the season. Lauren Hulsing had a big night at the net, leading the Wildcats with 12 kills while Allison Snyder was huge in the back row, finishing with 19 digs. Glidden Ralston served well with 8 aces, led by Olivia Squibb with 4. MaKenna Wiederien has settled into the setters role and is playing well, finding four different girls for a kill, having 18 assists to go with 11 digs. Kassidy Wenck had 5 kills and 6 digs with Ashlynn Tigges had 15 digs.

The Wildcats are 3-1 this week and 9-12 overall, improving to 3-4 in the Rolling Valley Conference. They host Woodbine on Thursday.

The Audubon Wheelers picked up their second straight win as they knocked off Logan-Magnolia in five sets on Tuesday. Audubon would drop the first set to LoMa, losing 25-19. In the second set, the Wheelers adjusted as they would pick up a 25-18 win in set two, evening the match up at 1-1. The match continued to go back and forth as the Wheelers dropped the third set 25-20. Audubon would go to an important fourth set trailing LoMa 2-1. The fourth set was the most lopsided of the match as Audubon came away with a 25-17 win to send it to a fifth set. The fifth set was close, and Audubon walked away with a 15-13 win and a 3-2 victory over Logan-Magnolia. 

Harlow Miller was great at the net for Audubon as she recorded a team-high 19 kills. Kadence Brannan-Sporrer chipped in ten kills for the Wheelers. Anna Larsen led Audubon in assists with 27 in the win. Brannan-Sporrer also led Audubon in digs with 17. As a team, Audubon recorded 11 blocks. Miller had a team-high six blocks. With the win, Audubon moves to 7-17. The Wheelers are back in action on Thursday against IKM-Manning.

The Coon Rapids-Bayard Crusaders fell on the road to one of the top teams in the Rolling Valley Conference on Tuesday. The Crusaders would lose in three straight sets. CRB got off to a slow start in the match as they fell down early in the first set. Boyer Valley would win the first set 25-16. The second set was the closest of the match as it was back and forth. Boyer Valley would go up 2-0 with a close 25-23 win in the second set. The third set was also won by the Bulldogs as they would win 3-0 and 25-19 in the third set against Coon Rapids-Bayard.

Malia Clayburg led the way at the net for CRB with 13 kills. Aubrey Hofbauer added ten kills in the loss. Anna Hart was great in the back row, recording a team-high 18 digs. As a team, CRB had 52 digs. With the loss, the Coon Rapids-Bayard falls to 18-5. The Crusaders are back in action on Thursday against CAM.

Ar-We-Va at Woodbine

The Ar-We-Va Rockets played well in the first two sets as they fell on the road at Woodbine. The first and second sets were close, with Ar-We-Va playing some of its best volleyball this season. Woodbine would pick up a 25-21 win in the first set to take an early 1-0 lead. The second set was a little bit close, but Woodbine would go up 2-0 with a 25-22 victory. In the third set, Woodbine built an early lead and never looked back as they went on to win 25-10 and 3-0 over Ar-We-Va.

Amber Ragaller recorded a team-high 17 assists in the Rockets’ loss. Gabbie Hundling added seven kills at the net for Ar-We-Va. As a team, the Rockets recorded 30 digs. With the loss, Ar-We-Va falls to 0-19. The Rockets are back in action on Thursday against Paton Churdan.
