An Aubrey Hofbauer run late in set one was the difference in a tight set that gave the Crusaders momentum and they earned a sweep over Exira-EHK in a matchup of two of the top teams in  Rolling Valley Conference. The Crusaders rode the momentum of set one to early leads in sets two and three, only trailing once over the final two sets and only having the match tied twice over sets two and three. The Spartans had a strong run in set one, taking the lead late but struggled staying in system over the final two sets, forcing them to send over a lot of free balls.

The Crusaders jumped out 3-0 in set one but the Spartans rallied to pull within 3-2. Coon Rapids Bayard led by one or two points until a mini run midway through the set. Mayne Jorgensen pulled the Spartans within 11-10 with a kill but the Crusaders scored four straight points with Ella Heithoff at the service line. The lead grew to to 18-11 on a Malia Clayburg ace and the Spartans called a timeout. They quickly grabbed the momentum and roared back behind Taryn Petersen and a strong block at the net. Riley Miller and Jaelynn Petersen had a block, giving the Spartans their first lead at 20-19. They had run off nine of the ten points scored after the timeout. Coon Rapids Bayard responded, tying the set at 20. Aubrey Hofbauer had three straight kills for the Crusaders, putting them up 24-20. She ended the set with a block and Coon Rapids Bayard won the first set.

Ashtyn Klocke opened set two with a kill and Amelia Cook followed with an ace and Coon Rapids Bayard went up 4-0. Taryn Petersen pulled the Spartans within 6-3 with a kill but the Crusaders controlled set two, building a 24-12 lead as the Spartans struggled with communication issues according to team members after the match. Exira-EHK scored to open set three but Coon Rapids Bayard answered with Ella Heithoff getting a kill, giving them a 2-1 lead. The set was tied at 2 but never tied again with Heithoff earning another kill and Ashtyn Klocke serving an ace. Aubrey Hofbauer and Ashtyn Klocke helped the Crusaders stretch the lead late with Hofbauer having three kills and Klocke one kill, sandwiched around a kill by Jaelynn Petersen for Exira-EHK. Malia Clayburg ended the match with a kill for the Crusaders win.

Malia Clayburg led the Crusaders with 9 kills with Aubrey Hofbauer adding 6 big kills. Anna Hart added a team high 16 digs and a pair of aces. Clayburg pitched in with 9 digs and 2 blocks with Aubrey Hofbauer leading them with 4 blocks. Ella Heithoff finished with 11 digs and Ashtyn Klocke added 4 kills and 7 digs.

Taryn Petersen paced the Spartans with 9 kills and 11 digs. Jaelynn Petersen added 4 kills with Mayne Jorgensen finishing with 3 kills and 4 digs. Brooklyn Flathers had a team high 11 assists and Riley Miller finished with 5 assists.

Coon Rapids Bayard improved to 9-0 as they jumped into the rankings this week in Class 1A at 14th. They are 1-0 in the Rolling Valley and will head to Ar-We-Va on Thursday. Exira-EHK sits at 5-3 overall and 0-1 in the Rolling Valley. They head to Woodbine on Tuesday.

Glidden Ralston earned their third win of the season, sending Paton Churdan to a second loss in a row. The Wildcats earned the sweep, serving tough and getting strong nights at the net from Lauren Hulsing and Allison Snyder. Paton Churdan battled with Kaliyan Minnihan swinging well and Aliva Smith having a strong night in the back row. The Wildcats won the first-two sets 25-14, then completed the sweep with a 25-12 win. Ashlynn Tigges was dynamite at the service line with 9 aces for Glidden Ralston. They kept the Rockets scrambling and out of system most of the match. Allison Snyder added a pair of aces along with 9 kills. Lauren Hulsing paced their attack at the net with 10 kills. Amelia Garrett continues to play well at setter, finishing with 29 assists and 5 digs. Tigges showed her skills in the back row with a team high 13 digs. Kassidy Wenck added 5 kills. Kaliyah Minnihan paced the Rockets with 5 kills with Alivia Smith adding 8 digs and Mia Russell finishing with a pair of aces.

Glidden Ralston is 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the Rolling Valley. They head to Madrid on Monday for a triangular. Paton Churdan slips to 2-2 overall and 0-1 in the Rolling Valley. The Rockets visit West Harrison on Tuesday.

East Sac used a strong night by the back row, great serving and another big night at the net from Addisen Ehler to earn a tough road win in a big early matchup in the Twin Lakes Conference. The Raiders gave the Wolverines their first loss of the season, picking up a sweep with tight wins in sets one and three and a more comfortable win in the second set. The Raiders had 10 aces with Addisen Ehler leading the way with 4 aces with Jordin Carroll and Katelyn Schmitt both having 2 aces. West Bend Mallard gave their block some trouble but Coach Brandon Steiger says the back row was on point all match. Katelyn Schmitt and Jordin Carroll both had 11 digs with Ella Wilson adding 10 digs and Addisen Ehler added 7 digs. Carroll continues to do a nice job at setter, dishing out 25 assists, finding four different hitters. Emerson Ludwig led the Raiders with 2 blocks.

East Sac improves to 8-3 overall and 3-1 in the Twin Lakes Conference. They head to Rockwell City on Saturday for the South Central Calhoun Tournament.

The Wheelers played well all night in a three set loss on the road at Tri Center. They hit the ball very well, finishing with a .275 kill efficiency with Harlow Miller leading the way with 14 kills. She hit .324 with Alissa Testroet hitting .444, finishing with 5 kills. Anna Larsen had 20 assists on the teams 25 kills. The Wheelers struggled with serve receive over the final two matches but had four players in double figures in digs, led by Kadence Brannan-Sporrer with 14 followed by Anna Larsen, Payton Gust and Harlow Miller all with 11 digs. Abby Wanser and Harlow Miller both had 2 aces. The Wheelers faced their first team this season that served the way the Trojans did, causing some adjustment issues.

Audubon slips to 5-6 overall and 0-1 in the Western Iowa Conference. They had a 3 match win streak snapped. Audubon heads to Underwood on Tuesday.

South Central Calhoun at Alta-Aurelia

The South Central Calhoun Titans picked up their ninth straight win on the road Thursday at Alta-Aurelia. The Titans dominated the first set as they controlled the game, picking up a 25-7 win to take an early 1-0 lead. Alta-Aurelia bounced back in the second set as the match would be tied 1-1, with the Warriors picking up a 25-23 set two victory. The third set was close, but the Titans were able to win 25-21. SCC played a great all-around game on offense and defense at the net. Up 2-1 going to set number four, the Titans were able to pull away and pick up a 25-17 win. South Central Calhoun would pick up a 3-1 victory over Alta-Aurelia as they opened up conference play 3-0.

Brenna McAlister recorded a team-high 13 kills for the Titans. McAlister also served the volleyball well, recording seven aces. Jayci Graeve picked up 11 kills in the win. Sadie Wheelock was great at the net defensively, recording five blocks. Norah Riedesel kept the ball moving to different hitters, recording a team-high 28 assists. With the win, SCC improves to 11-3. The Titans are back in action on Saturday, hosting the Master Blaster Tournament.

IKM-Manning vs Underwood

The IKM-Manning Wolves suffered their first loss at home on Thursday as they fell to Underwood. IKM-Manning was aggressive at the net offensively. In the first set, Underwood was able to pull away and come out with a 25-17 win. The second set was much of the same as the Wolves would fall 25-17 again in set two. The Wolves would make adjustments and showed improvements in the third set as they were able to pull off a close 25-21 win. Underwood would pick up a close 25-20 win in a crucial fourth set. Underwood would also go on to win 3-1 over IKM-Manning.

Addisyn Bandow led the Wolves in kills with 11 in the loss. Keagan Eischeid and Grace Carroll each recorded eight kills for IKM-Manning. As a team, the Wolves recorded 30 kills. Karlee Arp recorded a team-high 24 assists. IKM-Manning was great at the net defensively as well picked up 13 blocks as a team. Ella Langel, Katelyn Bandow, and Grace Carroll each recorded a team-high three blocks. The Wolves also recorded ten aces in the loss. With the loss, IKM-Manning falls to 2-1. The Wolves are back in action on Tuesday against Treynor.

The Ar-We-Va Rockets fell on the road to Boyer Valley despite playing well in the first two sets. The Bulldogs were able to pull away in the first set, coming out on top 25-18 and taking a 1-0 lead. The Rockets corrected some mistakes as the second set was back and forth. Boyer Valley would come out on top 25-22 in a close second set. Ar-We-Va would fall in the third set 25-11 and go on to lose to Boyer Valley 3-0.

As a team, Ar-We-Va recorded 15 kills. Gabbie Hundling and Morgan Berg led the way with three kills each. Hundling also recorded a team-high one block. With the loss, Ar-We-Va falls to 0-8 on the season. The Rockets are back in action on Tuesday at home against CAM.
