Brincks Exteriors Sports Report: Wildcats Impressive in Win Over Ar-We-Va Friday

Glidden Ralston didn’t pull away until the 4th quarter but they were in control of the game from the opening drive. They were able to establish Colby Wallace on the ground, finishing with 33 carries for 186-yards and five rushing touchdowns. They held the Rockets offense in check all game, shutting down their ground game with pressure from the defensive line and linebackers and great pursuit from the defensive backs. The Wildcats ran for 232-yards while holding Ar-We-Va to 22-yard rushing and 166-yards passing with 102 of the passing yards coming on two plays, including a 58-yard touchdown pass to Wade Ragaller in the 4th quarter.

Glidden Ralston marched down the field on the opening drive, leaning heavily on the run game of Colby Wallace and a short passing game in the flat. They drove 67-yards on 7-plays with Colby Wallace scoring on a 1-yard run with 9:09 left in the quarter, putting them up 6-0. The defense made a stop on the Rockets first drive after Johnathan Riesselman broke loose on a 3rd down, picking up the first down and putting the Rockets in Wildcat territory. Ar-We-Va was stopped on 4th down at the Wildcat 29-yard line. Neither team finished a drive the rest of the half with the teams combining to turn the ball over on downs four straight possessions. The Wildcats were held at the Ar-We-Va 10-yard line with 6:29 left in the half but the defense forced a three and out, getting the ball at the Rockets 38-yard line. They looked to be in business until Wade Ragaller jumped  on a fumble at the Rockets 17-yard line. Glidden Ralston led 6-0 at half.

Landon Rohrbeck picked off Johnathan Riesselman on the opening possession of the 2nd half but the Wildcats didn’t convert on 4th down, giving the ball back to Ar-We-Va at their own 34-yard line. Ar-We-Va took advantage with Johnathan Riesselman hitting Wyatt Ragaller for a 25-yard touchdown and the Rockets went up 7-6 with 8:02 left in the 3rd quarter. Glidden Ralston got a big kick return from Lucas Christian but the Rockets defense held them on downs at the Ar-We-Va 21-yard line. Ar-We-Va wasn’t able to muster any offense and had to punt the ball away. A big punt return by Lucas Christian set the Wildcats up at the Ar-We-Va 28-yard line and Colby Wallace scored his second rushing touchdown on a 1-yard run and the Wildcats were on top 12-7 with 0:07 left in the 3rd quarter. Ar-We-Va had a chance but was forced to punt on their next drive and Colby Wallace scampered 12-yards for a touchdown with 7:06 left in the game and Glidden Ralston extended their lead to 18-7. The Wildcats defense came up big with Treynor Cose picking off a pass over the middle, setting up a 2-yard run by Wallace that capped a 14-yard drive. Glidden Ralston appeared in control of the game, up 26-7 with 4:08 left but the Rockets weren’t done yet. Johnathan Riesselman hit Wade Ragaller on a screen pass and he weaved his way across the field, finding the left sideline and scoring on a 58-yard pass. Ar-We-Va had a chance, down 26-15 with 3:41 left. The Wildcats put the game away with Colby Wallace finishing off a 24-yard drive after Alex Daniel took the onside kick, catching it on a bounce and running to the Rockets 24-yard line. Wallace scored on a 19-yard run to push the lead to 34-15.

Glidden Ralston improved to 1-1 on the season and will head to Colo-Nesco on Friday while Ar-We-Va fell to 1-1 and heads to Siouxland Christian on Friday in Correctionville.
