A young South Central Calhoun team started quickly, building a 13-0 lead in the 1st quarter and led 21-0 at half on their way to a season opening win. They were strong defensively, holding the Indians to 94-yards on the ground and 152-yards passing, finishing with a pair of interceptions, one returned for a touchdown. The Titans countered with 322-yards on the ground with five guys having 7 carries or more, led by Kaden Dorman with 17. The offense stumbled coming out of the half but closed the game with a 14-point 4th quarter allowing them to hold off an Indian rally.
Andrew Anderson struck first for the Titans, out racing the defense for a 45-yard touchdown, putting the Titans up 6-0 with 4:03 left in the 1st quarter. Anderson struck again on the final play of the 1st quarter, running for a 21-yard touchdown, putting them up 13-0 going into the 2nd quarter. Kaden Dorman joined the party in the 2nd quarter, punching in the first of his two touchdowns with a 3-yard run. The 2-point conversion extended the lead to 21-0 at half.
Pocahontas Area mustered some offense in the 3rd quarter, striking quickly. Logan Shiflett scored on an 83-yard run, pulling them within 21-6 with 7:21 left in the 3rd. Neither team was able to sustain a drive for points the rest of the 3rd quarter. South Central Calhoun took control of the game early in the 4th quarter with Kaden Dorman scoring on a 2-yard run with 11:02 left in the game and the Titans were up 28-6. Andrew Anderson salted the game away a few minutes later, retuning an interception 16-yards for a touchdown, putting the Titans up 35-6 with 8:55 left. The Indians added a late touchdown run to finish the scoring as the Titans rolled to a 35-12 win.
Kaden Dorman had a team high 93-yards rushing with a pair of touchdowns while Andrew Anderson had 77-yards rushing and 2 touchdowns. Anderson passed for 95-yards on 11 completions. He added a 16-yard touchdown on an interception. Caleb Juhl ended with 58-yards rushing.
The Titans are 1-0 and host Southwest Valley on Friday.
