The Kuemper Knights open their season with a home loss to a good Bishop Heelan team. Kuemper struggled to stop the rushing attack from Bishop Heelan. On the opening possession of the game, the Crusaders drove down the field and capped it off with a touchdown to take an early 7-0 lead. The Knights’ defense would make some adjustments as they would trail 7-0 at the end of the first quarter. Bishop Heelan would grow their lead going into the locker room at 19-0. In the third quarter, the Knights looked like a different team as they were able to cut into the Crusader’s lead. Sean Healy scored on a one-yard touchdown run to make the score 19-8. Bishop Heelan would grow their lead to 32-8 late in the fourth quarter. Healy would pick up his second touchdown on a blocked put, but Kuemper would fall 32-14.

Kuemper struggled to run the ball. Sophomore Jarin Hoffman was the leading rusher for the Knights with 27 yards on six carries. Brock Badding was 14-32 in the air for 157 yards. Carson Kanne used his explosiveness in the passing game as he caught eight passes for 105 yards. Braxton Vonnahme recorded one reception for 42 yards. Tate Bieret had a great night on the defensive side of the ball, leading the Knights in tackles with 12.5. Bieret had eight solo tackles and two tackles for loss. Kent Sanders recorded seven tackles for Kuemepr. Lucas Diehl also picked up six tackles. With the loss, Kuemper drops to 0-1. The Knights are back in action on Friday at Underwood on KIKD 106.7.
