IKM-Manning used a pair of early turnovers to build a lead they wouldn’t relinquish, earning a win in their season opener. East Sac kept battling pulling within 21-12 after falling down 14-0 in the 1st quarter. Both teams showed flashes on offense, able to establish the ground game while both defenses felt they will need to show improvement after allowing the other team score on over half of their possessions in the game.
IKM-Manning defense was sharp early, intercepting East Sac on the first play of the game. Davis Rasmussen made a nice diving catch on a well thrown ball by Ben Ramsey and the Wolves scored from 16-yards to get on the board with 8:30 left in the 1st quarter. East Sac was driving for a tying touchdown on their second possession but Ashton Ahrenholtz jumped a pass and returned it 95-yards for a touchdown, pushing the Wolves lead to 14-0 with 3:25 left in the 1st quarter. The Raiders responded, marching 58-yards, scoring on a 1-yard run by Sam Julin. The Raiders trailed 14-6 with 9:19 left in the half. The Wolves stretched the lead, marching from their own 33-yard line, scoring on an 8-yard run by Davis Rasmussen, pushing the lead to 21-6 with 6:59 left in the half. A Raider punt, the first punt for either team gave the Wolves a chance to take charge of the game. The Raiders made a nice play and Carson Schmitt picked off the Wolves, giving them the ball at the IKM-Manning 27-yard line. Sam Julin hit Dawson Allen for a 24-yard touchdown, cutting the lead to 21-12 with 2:59 left in the half. The Wolves chewed up the clock, driving 73-yards and scoring on a 7-yard run by Ben Ramsey with 0:12 left in the half. IKM-Manning led 28-12 at half. They nearly added to the lead, recovering the kickoff at the Raiders 24-yard line, just missing a pass on the final play of the half.
The Wolves stretched the lead to open the 2nd half with Ben Langel churning out a 9-yard touchdown run with 10:41 left in the 3rd quarter. The Wolves were up 35-12, Landon Grindle had a strong game running the ball for East Sac and scored his first touchdown on a 6-yard run. The Raiders got the 2-point conversion, pulling within 35-18 with 8:01 left in the 3rd. Both defenses made a stop on 4th down on their next possession with IKM-Manning taking over at the Raiders 46-yard line. Ben Langel scored on a 5-yard touchdown run, pushing the lead to 42-18 early in the 4th quarter. A Sam Julin 3-yard touchdown for East Sac was followed by a 5-yard Davis Rasmusssen run for East Sac with 1:03 left, pushing their lead to 49-26. The Raiders quickly moved it down field, scoring when Sam Julin hit Dawson Allen for a 2-yard touchdown with 0:08 left.
The Wolves were able to establish the ground game with Davis Rasmussen leading them with 12 carries for 164-yards and a pair of touchdowns, He added a 16-yard touchdown catch. Ben Langel scored twice on 26 carries and 151-yards. Wyatt Danner led the defense with 11 tackles with Davis Rasmussen, Ben Ramsey and Karsyn Lorenzen all having 8 tackles. Ashton Ahrenholtz returned an interception for a 95-yard touchdown.
Sam Julin led the Raiders with 128-yards on 19 carries while going 13-21 passing for 132-yards with 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. Landon Grindle added 17 carries for 57-yards and a touchdown. Dawson Allen and Gabe King both had 9.5 tackles with Jack Gullett adding 9 tackles.
IKM-Manning is 1-0 heading into Friday’s game at home with Panorama. East Sac is 0-1 and heads to OABCIG.
