The Knights earned a win against Underwood on Monday, part of a 2-0 start to the season. They rolled in the 1st set, winning 25-10. Kuemper’s serve was strong, finishing with seven aces. Elsa Tiefenthaler and Karsyn Overmohle did a strong job defensively and had a good match spreading the ball around, keeping the Eagles off balance. The Knights were balanced at the net, led by Brianna Wittrock with 7 kills, Addy Anthofer, Mariah Hueton and Kolbi Peter all had 3 kills. Elsa Tiefenthaler paced the team with 11 assists with Karsyn Overmohle adding 10 assists. The back row was strong again with Kaylie Simons putting together two strong performances on the night. She paced the Knights with 15 digs with Elsa Tiefenthaler adding 7 digs. Tiefenthaler and Simons led the Knights with 2 aces each.

Kuemper won a matchup of ranked teams, knocking off 13th ranked Van Meter in two sets. The Knights were strong in the back row, led by Kaylie Simons, who finished with 22 digs. Brooke Rohe added 10 digs, Brianna Wittrock had 8 digs and Karsyn Overmohle had 6 digs. Their ability to control the Bulldogs from the back row helped them win the battle at the net by keeping balls alive. They held the Bulldogs top hitters in check all match, controlling their shots down the line and tips.  Karsyn Overmohle and Elsa Tiefenthaler both did a nice job keeping their hitters involved. They both finished with 12 assists. Brianna Wittrock paced the hitters with 9 kills, with Zoe Brunning, Mariah Hueton, Kolbi Peter and Alivia Schenkelberg all having 3 kills. All of them had a high attacking percentage, teaming up to go 47-55. The Knights added seven blocks with five players having at least one.

Kuemper opens the season ranked 10th in Class 3A and improved to 2-0 heading into Tuesday’s home contest with Creston.

Glidden Ralston had a strong start to the season, answering a few questions coming into the season along with earning a 3-0 sweep. The Wildcats didn’t have much problem in the 1st set, winning 25-3 before cruising in sets two and three. Glidden Ralston was balanced at the net with three players having at least 5 kills with Ashlynn Tigges leading the way with 9, Lauren Hulsing added 7 and Kassidy Wenck finished with 5 kills. Amelia Garrett fed the ball to the hitters in good spots, feeding the hot hitter at the time, finishing with 23 assists. The biggest advantage for the Wildcats came at the service line, finishing with 22 aces. Kassidy Wenck led the strong night with 9 aces, followed by 5 from MaKenna Wiederien, 4 from Amelia Garrett and 3 from Ashlynn Tigges. Kassidy Wenck paced the backrow with 9 digs with Allison Snyder and Olivia Squibb each having 5.

The Wildcats start the season 1-0  and are off until September 10th when they head to Madrid for a triangular against Madrid and Audubon.
