The Class 1A State Championship game started with a bang in Carroll as Lynville-Sully took on Remsen St. Mary’s. Lynville-Sully struck first as they plated two runs on three hits in the top of the first inning to take an early 2-0 lead. Remsen St. Mary’s was able to get a baserunner on in the home half of the first inning but would tail 2-0 going to the second. Neither team scored in the second inning as Lynville-Sully would hold on to a 2-0 lead going to the third. After giving up a couple of runs in the first inning, Collin Homan settled in on the mound for Resmen as they pitched a perfect second and third inning for the Hawks. A couple of doubles in the bottom of the third inning were able to help Remsen get on the board as they cut into the lead at 2-1 going to the fourth inning. Collin Homan and Hunter Pick recorded the doubles in the inning. Neither team would score in the fourth inning as the pitching dual continued going to the fifth inning, with Lynville-Sully leading 2-1.
After struggling to get on base in the middle innings, Lynville-Sully would extend their lead in the fifth as they plated a run on one hit to make the score 3-1 going to the home half of the inning. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Remsen was able to get a couple of runners on base, but a double play ended the threat as we would go to the sixth. Neither team scored in the sixth inning. Lynville-Sully would explode for four runs in the top of the seventh inning as they picked up a couple of extra-base hits to extend their lead to 7-1. Remsen St. Mary’s loaded the bases in the home half of the seventh but would not score as they would go on to lose 7-1.
With the win, Lynville-Sully captured the 1A State Championship. Remsen St. Mary’s finished runner-up in 2024.
