Riley Miller drove in Mattie Nielsen from 1st base on a ball hit into the right-center field with 2-outs in the bottom of the 7th and Audubon earns a win in their first ever game at the State Softball Tournament. The Wheelers never trailed in the game after grabbing a 3-0 lead in the 3rd inning. Riley Miller was strong in the circle, striking out 6, allowing 4-hits while her defense kept making play after play. Michelle Brooks was tremendous at 3rd base, Taryn Petersen had a great running catch up the 3rd base line from shortstop and Anna Larsen made a pair of big catches in left field. Gemini Goodwin made a great effort on a ball in right field that would have ended the game in the top 7th, but it dropped in for a base hit, tying the game.
Gemini Goodwin reached on an error with 1-out in the 3rd inning. Taryn Petersen singled with 2-outs and Jordan Porsch doubled to right-center scoring both runs. Porsch scored on a single by Alexis Obermeier, putting the Wheelers up 3-0. West Monona answered with a pair of runs in the top 4th, putting some pressure on the Wheelers with a couple sac bunts with runners at 3rd base. Neither team scored until the 7th when West Monona got a leadoff single by Abby Hiat, A Sac bunt put the runner in scoring position and a flair to shallow right where Gemini Goodwin made a great diving effort, but the ball popped free tying the game. Jordan Porsch threw out the runner trying to steal 2nd base and to end the inning. Mattie Nielsen singled to start the bottom 7th, setting the stage for Riley Miller with 2-outs to drill a ball to right-center, that got to the wall and Nielsen scored the game ending run.
Riley Miller went 7 innings, allowing 4 hits and 3 earned runs. She added a double with an RBI to win the game. Jordan Porsch had a double and 2-RBI while Mattie Nielsen and Taryn Petersen both had a hit and scored a run. Alexis Obermeier had a hit and an RBI.
The Wheelers are 28-4 and play Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont in the semifinals on Wednesday at 5:15 on 93.7 KKRL.
