2024 Softball Rewind All-Stars

Coach of the Year

Andrea Schwery of Audubon

Coach Schwery did a tremendous job this season, taking two programs that had been successful in the past and merging them into a State Tournament team. The Wheelers used outstanding pitching and good defense along with a group of kids that never gave up, winning 27 games. They won the Western Iowa Conference, finishing 15-1 in the league. With the success of their spring season’s the Wheelers started slowly, losing a tight game to a very good Earlham club and sat 3-3 after losses to Atlantic and Missouri Valley. They didn’t have all of their players at many early season practices as they wrapped up State Track and tennis postseasons. Once those seasons ended Audubon was able to work on gelling as a team.  The Wheelers didn’t back away from playing anyone as Coach Schwery knew, playing a tough schedule would make this team better, challenging them and preparing them for the postseason. The Wheelers began to play at a high level after a 5-4 loss to Missouri Valley. They won 20 straight games before falling to #1 Martensdale St Mary’s on the road on July 1st. During their winning streak, the Wheelers topped ranked teams in LoMa, Missouri Valley, Treynor (sweeping them), Woodbine and Interstate 35. Audubon topped the Roadrunners in a marathon that went 15 innings. The 2-1 win jumped the Wheelers to #4 in Class 2A. Coach Schwery went over 100 wins in her career.
