Merchants Sweep a Pair at Nevada on Wednesday

Carroll kept their run to a playoff berth alive with a shutout win on Wednesday in the first game of a doubleheader. The Merchants got a outstanding pitching performance from Cullen McBride and were efficient on offense. They took the lead in the 2nd inning when Bryce Hoskinson hit a 2-run home run, scoring Sammy Harris who walked with 1-out. They separated themselves in the 3rd inning, scoring 3-runs. Aiden Cizek walked and stole 3rd before scoring on a wild pitch, Noah Dutler drove in Lanny Harris who had singled to left field. Sammy Harris singled, driving in Jake McClure. Cullen McBride kept the Griffons off balance all night. He stranded a runner in the 1st inning, ending the inning with a strikeout. Nevada had a chance in the 4th innings, getting two runners on base but McBride ended the inning with a strikeout. Nevada left five runners on base through 4 innings. Carroll put the game away win an insurance run in the 7th inning. Bryce Hoskinson drove in Jake McClure, making it 6-0. Cullen McBride got the Griffons in order in the bottom half, striking out the first batter and inducing a pair of fly ball outs to end the game.

Cullen McBride earned the win, going 7 innings, allowing 5 hits with 6 strikeouts. Bryce Hoskinson helped provide the offense with a 2-run home run, ending the game with 3 RBI. Sammy Harris had a pair of hits, driving in a run and scoring. Jake McClure scored twice.

Carroll earned a sweep, using a 4-run 5th inning to take a 6-1 lead, then holding on for a 7-5 win. The Merchants had 10 hits with four different players having 2-hits each. Logan Harris drove in 3 RBI and Bishop Woods closed it out with a strong inning on the hill.

Both teams scored in the 2nd innings with the Merchants grabbing a 1-0 lead when Logan Harris singled to score Austin Stewart. Nevada matched it in the bottom half, getting a pair of hits, including a double to tie the game at 1. Arrington Eason singled and scored later in the inning on  wild pitch.  The lead grew to 6-1 in the 5th. Carroll had 3 hits with Aiden Cizek singling to score Cullen McBride, Austin Stewart walked, scoring Xavier Lerma and Logan Harris doubled, scoring Justin Rickets and Cizek. Xavier Lerma singled in the 6th inning scoring Jake McClure. The Griffons responded in the bottom 6th, They strung together 7 hits, scoring 4-runs but left 2-runners on base as Carroll held a 7-5 lead. Bishop Woods pitched the 7th inning stranding a Griffon on base to end the game.

Logan Harris had a pair of hits with 3 RBI. Cullen McBride had a pair of hits with a double and scored a run, Sammy Harris had a pair of hits and Arrington Eason had 2-hits and scored a run. Xavier Lerma and Aiden Cizek both had a base hit, scoring a run and driving in an RBI.

The pair of wins moves the Merchants to 17-23 overall and 16-22 in the Mink League with a game at Jefferson City on Thursday, At Clarinda on Friday and a home game Saturday night with Warren County.
