Coon Rapids Bayard had a chance early tonight but weren’t able to score and St Mary’s took advantage in the bottom 1st, taking a quick 1-0 lead and pulling away as the game went on to beat the Crusaders 8-0. The Crusaders were held to two hits and had three baserunners, threatening to score in the 1st and 3rd innings but going down in order the other five innings and not having a runner reach base against Colin Homan over the final four innings.
Cal Heydon singled to start the game and Kolby Culbertson sacrificed him to 2nd base but he was stranded and the Crusaders weren’t able to strike first. St Mary’s took advantage in the bottom 1st with a leadoff single by Landon Waldschmitt and a triple by Daenon Loucks. The Crusaders fought their way out of trouble and trailed 1-0 going to the 2nd inning. Cal Heydon singled to start the 3rd inning and St Mary’s intentionally walked Kolby Culbertson with both runners moving into scoring position on a passed ball but Coon Rapids Bayard didn’t capitalize. St Mary’s began to break the game open in the 3rd inning, using three walks and a single to score 2-runs, leading 3-0. The Hawks lead grew in the 4th inning when the Hawks took advantage of a Crusader miscue to score 3-unearned runs and lead 6-0. They added a pair of runs on 4-hits in the 6th and left two runners on base.
Cal Heydon had both of the Crusaders hits, with singles in the 1st and 3rd innings, Kolby Culbertson had a walk.
Coon Rapids Bayard ends their season at 22-12.
