Brincks Exteriors Sports Report: Carroll Baseball Falls to Harlan on Friday

Carroll hit the ball hard early in the game, having 7-hits through 3 innings with a pair of doubles and most hits solidly hit. The bats went quit in the 4th-6th innings and Harlan, which was outhit 7-4 going into the bottom 3rd, erupted for 9-runs in the 3rd and 4th inning combined. The Tigers kept fighting, staving off two Harlan rallies that nearly ended the game early. Carroll fought out of a bases load, 1-out jam in the 5th down 11-2. The Cyclones had 2-runners on in the 6th with 1-out and Carroll battled to extend the game to the 7th.

Harlan took the early lead, getting 3-hits and scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the 1st inning. Carroll had gotten runners on base in each of the first-two innings. Ryan North singled up the middle with 2-outs in the 1st and Carroll had a chance to score with runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs but they had a runner thrown out at home, then left two runners on base with 1-out. The Tigers broke through in the 3rd. Jackson Gross singled to start the inning, followed by a Tate Schleisman single. Gross scored on a single by Ryan North and Chase Ragaller grounded out to 3rd base, scoring Schleisman. Carroll had the game tied at 2 going into the bottom half. The Cyclones started the inning with a popup to 2nd base on the first pitch. The 1-out rally started with a Tiger error, then a walk before a single drove in the lead run. Landen Kaufman came up for Harlan with two runners on base and hit a 3-run home run over the left field fence. That pushed Harlan in front 6-2. Carroll went in 4th, 5th and 6th innings, opening the door for Harlan to stretch the lead. A single to start the 4th inning was followed by Carroll’s second error. An RBI singled broke the flood gates open and Weston Reisz hit a 3-RBI double and Harlan scored 5-runs in the 4th to lead 11-2. Landon Petersen doubled to start the 7th for Carroll and scored on a ball of the bat of Jackson Gross, scoring from 2nd base. The Tigers stretched the game to seven innings, playing hard through some stuff situations.

Ryan North finished with a pair of hits and an RBI. Carter Essick had a double and 2-hits, Jackson Gross had a hit and scored a run and Landon Petersen doubled and scored.

The Tigers season ends at 8-19.
