The Merchants had a game slip away late as they held a lead into the middle innings, before being outscored 5-3 over the final three innings in a 9-7 loss. Chillicothe took the early lead with 2-runs in the 1st inning but Carroll fought back, scoring in the 2nd inning When Jordan Brandenburg doubling to score Nolan Oliver. The Mudcats pushed the lead to 3-1 with a run in the 4th but Carroll took the lead in the bottom half. Carroll scored 3-runs on 1 hit, scoring twice on bases loaded walks and the other run on a balk. Sammy Harris singled early in the inning to get the rally started. Chillicothe chipped away with a run in the 6th inning, then took the lead with 2-runs in the 7th. Carroll responded again, scoring twice in the bottom 7th. Sammy Harris scored on a wild pitch, then Bryce Hoskinson singled to score Arrington Eason, tying the game at 6. A 2-run top 8th gave Chillicothe a late lead. Carroll went down in order in the bottom half. A Mudcat run in the top 9th, stretched the lead to 9-6. Sammy Harris led off the bottom 9th with a solo home run but the Merchants only had one baserunner the rest of the inning.
Bryce Hoskinson had a pair of hits with 2 RBI with Sammy Harris collecting 3 hits with a double and a home run. Harris drove in 1 and scored 3-runs. Jordan Brandenburg doubled and had a RBI.
The loss drops the Merchants to 13-20 overall and 13-19 in the MINK League. The Merchants head to Warren County on Monday.
