Kuemper at Red Oak – Doubleheader

The Kuemper Knights erupted for 11 runs as they picked up a win in game one of a varsity doubleheader at Red Oak on Monday. As a team, Kuemper recorded nine hits in the win. Kaci Peter led the game off with a bunt single and came around to score. The Knights would score four runs in the first inning as they took a 4-0 lead. Two more runs came across in the second inning. Kaylie Diercksen picked up a single in the inning. The Knights would add two more runs in the third inning and three in the fifth as they would go on to win 11-0 against Red Oak. Myli Schaefer picked up the win for the Knights, going all five innings, giving up one hit, and striking out six Red Oak batters. Kaylie Diercksen was 3-4 with five RBIs in the win. Kaci Peter was 2-5 with a couple of singles for the Knights. Charlotte Schwabe, Ellie Sibbel, Ally Sommerfeld, and Kyla Wiskus recorded the other hits for Kuemper.

The Knights picked up a sweep against Red Oak with a five-inning win on Monday in game two of the doubleheader. In the top of the first inning, Kuemper added three runs as they opened up an early 3-0 lead. In the inning, the Knights recorded four hits, which led to the runs. Red Oak would add a run in the home as they would trail Kuemper 3-1 going to the second. Neither team scored in the second inning. Kuemper would extend their lead in the third inning as they scored three runs, taking a 6-1 lead. The Knights added four runs in the fourth and one more in the fifth as they would go on to win 12-2.

As a team, Kuemper recorded 12 hits. Kaylie Diercksen continued her great night as she went 3-4 with a double and a triple, driving in three runs. Kaci Peter, Allison Ostrander, and Charlotte Schwabe each recorded two hits during the win. Ellie Sibbel, Chloe Gehling, and Addison Schon recorded the other hits for the Knights. Schwabe picked up the win in the circle, going five innings, giving up two earned runs, and striking out three Red Oak hitters. With the wins, Kuemper improved to 15-12. The Knights are back in action on Tuesday against Logan-Magnolia.

Carroll at Winterset

The Carroll Tigers fell on the road Monday, taking on a conference team in Winterset. The Tigers struggled to hit, as they only recorded two hits. In the bottom of the first inning, Winterset scored two runs to take a 2-0 lead. The lead would grow to 5-0 in the third as the Huskies added three more runs. Emma Kuhlmann reached base on a walk at the top of the fourth inning. Amanda Wardell came to bat next and hit a two-run home run to put Carroll on the board at 5-2. At the bottom of the fourth, Winterset would extend their lead as they plated four runs to score 9-2. Neither team scored the rest of the game as Winterset would go on to win 9-2. Wardell and Kuhlmann recorded the hits for the Tigers. With the loss, Carroll falls to 7-20. The Tigers are back in action on Tuesday against Gilbert.

East Sac County at Coon Rapids-Bayard

Neither team hit the ball well, but CRB capitalized on more free bases, and they would go on to beat East Sac County on Monday. Neither team scored in the first inning. The Crusades led the whole game. They took the lead in the second inning, plating one run to take a 1-0 lead. Piper Mason had an RBI single in the inning. The Crusader lead would expand in the third inning as three more runs came across the plate, and the score would move to 4-0. CRB would add another run in the fourth inning as they would lead 5-0. The Raider’s lone run came in the top of the fifth as they would trail 5-1. Kamryn Ross picked up a single in the inning. CRB would go on to win the game 5-1.

Both teams combined for seven hits. East Sac County out-hits Coon Rapids-Bayard in the game. Anna Hart, Breeley Clayburg, and Piper Mason recorded a hit for the Crusaders. In the win, the Crusaders worked eight walks. East Sac County recorded four hits in the matchup. Jen Aschinger, Sarah Bontrager, Kamryn Ross, and Miranda Gerdes each picked up a hit for the Raiders. With the win, the Crusaders improved to 8-10. They are back in action on Tuesday against IKM-Manning. The loss drops East Sac County to 9-14. The Raiders are back in action on Tuesday against Glidden-Ralston.

The South Central Calhoun Titans fell at home to a non-conference team in Ridge View. The Raptors scored in every inning and would go on to win 17-1. Two runs came across at the top of the first from Ridge View, and they would take a 2-0 lead. SCC would score in the home half as they would trail 2-1 going to the second inning. Ridge View would extend their lead in the second inning as two more runs came across the plate. The Raptors added seven runs in the third and six in the fifth inning as they would go on to win 17-1. SCC only recorded two hits coming off the bats of Mady Smidt and Jayci Graeve. Smidt started in the circle, giving up 11 runs while picking up two strikeouts. With the loss, SCC falls to 1-16. The Titans are back in action on Wednesday against OABCIG.

The Audubon Wheeler’s winning streak comes to an end on Monday in a game that was closer than the final score shows. The game started back and forth, with Audubon holding a lead over number one Martensdale late in the game. Neither team scored in the first and second innings. In the bottom of the third inning, St. Marys added a run to take a 1-0 lead over the Wheelers. Another run would come across in the home half of the fourth inning as the lead would grow to 2-0 for Martensdale. In the top of the fifth inning, Audubon would take their only lead of the game as four runs came across the plate, and the Wheelers grabbed a 4-2 lead. Martensdale St. Marys would tie the game up in the bottom of the fifth, plating two runs to make it 4-4. In the home half of the sixth inning, Martensdale would open the game up with five runs as they would go on to win 9-4 over Audubon.

The Wheelers recorded six hits as a team in the loss. Mattie Nielsen went 2-4 with an RBI for the Wheelers. Jordan Porsch had a multi-hit game, going 2-4 with an RBI. Riley Miller and Gemini Goodwin picked up the other hits for Audubon. Miller picked up the loss in the circle, going six innings and giving up nine earned runs on ten hits while striking out eight St. Mary’s batters. With the loss, Audubon falls to 23-4. The Wheelers are back in action on Tuesday against Newell-Fonda.
