Merchants Split Doubleheader with Sedalia on Saturday

The Merchants earned a win in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday, scoring early and often and cruising to an 8-0 lead. Carroll scored 8-runs, using 4-hits and 5-walks, taking advantage of most Sedalia miscues. Logan Harris scored the first run of the game, walking in the 1st inning, moving to 3rd on a single by Sammy Harris. Noah Dutler flew out to leftfield, scoring Harris. Sammy Harris scored moments later, stealing 3rd base and scoring on an error. A Bomber error helped set up a big 2nd inning for the Merchants. Jake McClure drove in Dylan Shepherd after a Sedalia error kept Shepherd on base. Logan Harris drove in Byrce Hoskinson and Justin Ricketts scored on a wild pitch, putting the Merchants up 5-0. Carroll added 3-runs in the bottom 4th to seal the win. They collected 3 hits in inning with Noah Dutler earned an RBI and Nolan Oliver driving in Dutler. Sammy Harris scored on a double steal.

Cullen McBride earned the win, going 5 innings with 5 strikeouts. Noah Dutler drove in a pair of runs and scored once. Nolan Oliver and Logan Harris both had a base hit and RBI while Jake McClure had an RBI and scored a run. Sammy Harris had a base hit and scored twice.

The Merchants had a chance for a sweep on Saturday, trailing 2-1 going into the 5th inning but Sedalia scored 5-runs to separate themselves. The Bombers scored an unearned run in the 2nd inning, taking a 1-0 lead. They added a run on two hits in the 3rd inning, scoring on a single and a double. The Merchants responded in the bottom 4th inning. Sammy Harris singled and scored on a groundout by Cullen McBride. Sedalia responded in the 5th with 5-hits, leading to 5-runs. They loaded the bases with no outs on a walk and a pair of singles. Carroll trimmed the lead in the 6th inning when Jake McClure walked and scored on a double by Sammy Harris. Harris scored later in the inning on a wild pitch. A late rally  fell short in the 7th inning as Carroll loaded the bases on a pair of walks and a single. A strikeout and a ground out ended the threat and game.

Sammy Harris had a pair of hits including a double, driving in a run and scoring twice. Jake McClure singled and scored and Cullen McBride had an RBI. Carroll finished the game with 3 hits. Quentin Culbertson pitched 3 innings, allowing 3 hits and 1 earned run while striking out 2.

The Merchants moved to 12-17 overall and 12-16 in the MINK League. They host St Joseph on Sunday on the CB Sports Network Youtube channel.
