Kuemper at Clarinda – Doubleheader

The Knights only recorded two hits in a six-inning loss to Clarinda in game one of a doubleheader. Benicio Lujano and John Boes recorded the lone hits for the Knights in the loss. Clarinda jumped out to an early lead, scoring three runs in the first inning. The lead would grow to 7-0 in favor of Clarinda going to the fifth inning. In the top of the fifth inning, Kuemper scored a run to score 7-1. Four runs came across for the Cardinals in the bottom of the sixth inning, and they would go on to win 11-1. Kuemper pitching gave up 11 walks in the game and nine earned runs on nine hits. Despite only two hits in the game, the Knights were able to work seven walks.

Game two was a track meet between Clarinda and Kuemper as the Knights fell down early and attempted to come back late. In the bottom of the first inning, the Cardinals plated four runs, taking a 4-0 lead. The lead would grow to 7-1 in the second inning. The lead would grow to 9-1 in the bottom of the third inning in favor of Clarinda. Neither team scored in the fourth inning. The Knights would come storming back as they would tie the game up at 9-9 in the top of the fifth inning. The Cardinals took the lead back in the home half at 10-9. In the top of the seventh inning, Kuemper put up another considerable number as they would score seven times to take a 16-10 lead. The game slipped away from Kuemper in the bottom of the seventh as Clarinda would add seven runs of their own to go on and win 17-16.

As a team, Kuemper recorded 11 hits. Carter Putney and Ethan Loew each had three hits and three RBIs in the game. Tristian Janson was 1-5 in the loss with a double and three RBI. Benicio Lujan had a multi-hit game, going 2-6. Josh Langel recorded the other hit for the Knights. In the loss, Kuemper’s pitching combined to give up 12 earned runs on ten hits and walked 13 Clarinda batters. With the losses, Kuemper falls to 11-14. The Knights are back in action on Tuesday against Denison-Schleswig.

Boone at Carroll

The Carroll Tigers fell at home on Wednesday despite being able to put the ball in play on the offensive end. Boone won the game in five innings. Boone also hit the ball well, which put pressure on Carroll’s pitching. Boone scored three runs in the top of the first inning, capitalizing on a couple of hit batters and an error to take an early 3-0 lead. Carroll would respond in the home half as Ryan North came in to score on an RBI single for Chase Ragaller. Neither team scored in the second inning. Boone opened the game up with a six-run third inning to take a 9-1 lead. The Tigers would add a run in the bottom of the third to trail 9-2. Boone’s lead would grow again in the fourth as they plated one run. Carroll responded again with a two-run home half as Ragaller had a two-RBI double. Carroll would go to the fifth inning trailing 10-4. Boone plated four more runs in the top of the fifth as they would go on to win 14-4.

As a team, Carroll recorded seven hits. Ryan North was 2-2 with a double and a run scored. Chase Ragaller also recorded a multi-hit game, going 2-2 with a double and three RBI. Jackson Gross, Carter Essick, and Jake Jorgensen recorded the other hits for the Tigers. Tallon Crandall took the loss on the hill, going two-plus innings and giving up eight earned runs on eight hits. With the loss, Carroll falls to 6-13. The Tigers are back in action on Wednesday against Audubon.

Glidden-Ralston fell behind early but was able to grab a lead before seeing it slip away on the road at Boyer Valley. Boyer Valley took an early lead in the bottom of the first inning, plating two runs to go up 2-0. Neither team scored in the second inning. In the bottom of the third, Boyer Valley would add another run to go up 3-0. Glidden-Ralston finally got on the board in the top of the fifth inning as they would plate four runs to take a 4-0 lead. The Wildcats would extend their lead in the sixth inning, plating one run to take a 5-3 lead. The Bulldogs would respond in the home half of the sixth with six runs, and they would go on to win 9-5.

As a team, Glidden-Ralston recorded six hits. Mark Lensch recorded a multi-hit game, going 2-4 with a couple of RBI. Alex Daniel went 1-3 with a solo home run. Jonathan Bergmeier, Collin Sturm, and Lucas Christian recorded the other hits for the Wildcats. Bergmeier also pitched five innings, giving up one earned run on five hits and striking out six Boyer Valley batters. With the loss, Glidden-Ralston falls to 3-12. The Wildcats are back in action on Wednesday against Woodbine.

The Crusaders picked up their 15th win of the season with a come-from-behind victory over CAM on Monday. The Crusaders scored the first run of the game at the top of the first inning, taking an early 1-0 lead. CAM would respond in the home half of the first as they tied the game at 1-1. Cam added a couple more runs in the second inning to take a 3-1 lead. Neither team scored in the third inning. CRB would regain the lead in the top of the fourth inning plating four runs to take a 5-3 lead. CAM would respond again at the bottom of the fourth as they would tie the game up at 5-5. In the top of the fifth, the Crusaders plated a run, and they would go on to win 6-5.

Tyler Mohr had a two-run home run in the win for the Crusaders. Kolby Culbertson had a two-RBI single. Cal Heydon hit two doubles and recorded an RBI for CRB. Culbertson and Heydon both pitched for the Crusaders. They combined to go all seven innings, giving up nine hits while striking out eight CAM batters. With the win, CRB improved to 15-9. The Crusaders are back in action on Tuesday against Alta-Aurelia.

The Audubon Wheelers fell at home on Monday to Bedford. The Wheelers only managed two hits coming off the bat of Brody Schultes and Aaron Olsen. Neither team scored in the first inning. Bedford plated the game’s first run in the second, taking a 1-0 lead. The lead would grow to 3-0 in the third inning. One more run came across in the fourth and two more in the fifth as the lead would grow to 6-0. In the top of the sixth, Bedford scored seven runs, and they would go on to win 13-0 in six innings. Aaron Olsen took the loss on the hill, going four-plus innings and giving up one earned run on four hits while striking out two Bedford hitters. With the loss, Audubon falls to 1-20. The Wheelers are back in action on Tuesday against CAM.
