Sammy Harris had a big day at the plate, Dylan Shepherd and Cullen McBride homered and Caleb Tucker was outstanding on the hill as the Carroll Merchants rolled to a win over Chillicothe on Sunday. Carroll finished the game with 12 hits, 5 of them went for extra bases. Caleb Tucker went the distance, giving up 3 hits and striking out 9.
The offense was rolling early for Carroll as Logan Harris tripled with 1-out in the 1st inning and scored on a double from Sammy Harris. Harris moved to 3rd on a ground out and scored on a wild pitch, giving Carroll a 2-0 lead. Chillicothe rallied in the 3rd, scoring a pair of runs on 3 hits. Tucker and the defense slammed the door shut the rest of the game. The Merchants responded in their half of the 3rd. Noah Dutler singled, scoring Sammy Harris, who had tripled with 1-out. Dutler moved to 2nd on an error and went to 3rd on a ground out, scoring on a wild pitch. Carroll led 4-2 going to the 5th inning when they blew the game open. Sammy Harris led off the inning with a single and jogged home on a 2-run home run from Dylan Shepherd. Justin Ricketts got on base with a fielder’s choice and scored on a single by Jovan Suarez. Caleb Tucker didn’t allow a Mudcat on base from the 3rd until the 9th inning. The Merchants added single runs in the 6th and 7th inning with Sammy Harris driving in Arrington Eason in the 6th and Cullen McBride leading off the 7th with a solo home run.
Sammy Harris went 4-5 with a double, triple, 2 RBI and 3-runs scored. Dylan Shepherd had a 2-run home run and Cullen McBride had a solo home run. Logan Harris tripled and scored and Jovan Suarez had 3 hits, driving in a run. Caleb Tucker went all 9 innings, allowing 3 hits and 2 earned runs with 9 strikeouts to earn the win.
The Merchants host St Joseph on Tuesday on the CB Sports Network YouTube Channel. They are 10-15 overall and 10-14 in the MINK League.
