Carroll Merchants At Sedalia- Doubleheader

The Merchants struggled in game 1 of the doubleheader, collecting a pair of hits and getting one other baserunner due to a walk. Sedalia took advantage of the offense struggles, jumping out early with 3-runs in the 1st inning, cruising to a 8-0 win in 5 innings. Jake McClure singled to leadoff the game but was stranded at 1st base. Aiden Cizek walked to leadoff the 2nd inning, giving the Merchants the leadoff batter on for the first-two innings. Cizek was thrown out trying to steal 2nd base as the Merchants left two on base for the game. Cizek singled to leadoff the 5th inning but was stranded on base.

Bryce Hoskinson singled to score Aiden Cizek in the top of the 7th with what turned out to be the game winning run. Cizek entered the game as pinch runner for Nolan Oliver who singled. Sedalia threatened in the bottom 7th, getting a pair of runners on base with 1-out but the Merchants were able to get out of the situation with a double play to end the game.

Sedalia scored twice in the 1st inning, taking a 2-0 lead. The Merchants, who struggled at the plate in the opening game, started slowly, not getting a hit in the first-two innings. Things changed in the 3rd when they erupted for 6-runs on 3 hits. Arrington Eason singled but was thrown out at 2nd base when Jake McClure reached on a fielder’s choice. Logan Harris walked and Sammy Harris reached on an error, loading the bases. Carroll took advantage of the mistake, keeping the defenses on their heals. Nolan Oliver reached on an error, scoring Jake McClure. Dylan Shepherd followed it up with single, scoring Sammy Harris and Logan Harris. Cullen McBride kept the offense rolling with a double, clearing the bases with Bryce Hoskinson, Dylan Shepherd and Nolan Oliver all scoring. Sedalia answered, tying the game with 4-runs  on 5 hits in the bottom 4th. That set up the game winning hit and run in the 7th for the Merchants.

Cullen McBride doubled, scoring 3-runs, Dylan Shepherd drove in a pair of runs and scored once. Bryce Hoskinson had a base hit and scored as did Sammy Harris and Nolan Oliver. Ethan Silva went 3 innings, striking out 4 to earn the win.

The split of the doubleheader moves Carroll to 8-14 overall and 8-13 in the MINK League. They sit in 5th place as they head to Jefferson City for a doubleheader on Saturday.
