Carlisle At Carroll

Emma Kuhlmann hit a solo home run and Parker Adams threw out 5 of 8 girls trying to steal as the Tigers hosted Carlisle on Thursday. The Wildcats collected 17-hits, helping them score 12-runs, putting the game away in the 6th inning. The Wildcats struck for 3-runs in both the 2nd and 4th innings, surrounding a solo run in the 3rd inning. After being shutout in the 5th inning, they scored 5-runs in the 6th to build a 12-0 lead. Emma Kuhlmann hit a solo home for Carroll in the bottom of the 6th, one of three hits for the Tigers. Kloee Jones and Amanda Wardell both had singles for the Tigers. Bella Lu walked once and stole a pair of bases.

The loss drops Carroll to 7-17 overall and 0-10 in the Raccoon River Conference. They take on Lewis Central Saturday at the Little League Fields in Carroll.

Allison Ostrander came up big for Kuemper on senior night, doubling in the bottom of the 7th and scoring on an Ram error to win the game for the Knights. Kuemper played well but was never able to separate themselves from Greene County. Kaci Peter singled in the 1st inning and scored on a wild pitch, tying the game at 1. The Rams scored in the top half of the inning on a base  hit and a Kuemper error. Ally Sommerfeld singled for Kuemper in the 2nd and scored on a base hit by Morgan Masching and Kuemper edged in front 2-1. The Knights threatened in the 4th inning with Kaylie Diercksen walking and Morgan Masching singling, but they were stranded on base. Myli Schaefer was pitching well, sitting down the Rams in order in the 2nd and 4th inning and holding them to two runners on base after the 1st inning until the 5th inning. The Rams were able to play small ball, getting three bunt singles and a base hit, scoring twice in the 5th, taking a 3-2 lead. The Knights responded in their half, Kaci Peter had a 1-out single and scored on a single by Allison Ostrander. Peter stole 2nd and 3rd base. Greene County went back in front in the 6th with a single and a triple, leading 4-3. Morgan Masching had a 2-out single, her third of the game. She stole 2nd and 3rd base, finishing with five stolen bases. That allowed her to score on a Ram error, tying the game at 4. The Rams went quietly in the 7th, setting the stage for Ostrander. Allison Ostrander doubled with 1-out and moved to 3rd on a walk to Kaylie Diercksen, loading the bases. Ally Sommerfeld put it in play and the Rams committed and error with Ostrander scoring the game ending run with 2-outs.

Morgan Masching had a huge game, going 3-3 with an RBI and scoring a run. Kaci Peter and Allison Ostrander both had 2 hits with Ostrander doubling, driving in a run and scoring and Peter scored twice. Ally Sommerfeld had a base hit and scored. Myli Schaefer earned the win, going 7 innings, allowing 8 hits and 3 earned runs. She struck out 6.

The Knights improved to 12-8. They host Treynor at their tournament on Saturday at 10:00.

Audubon At IKM-Manning

For a second straight game IKM-Manning played one of the top teams in the Western Iowa Conference close, late into the game. Audubon made some nice adjustments at the plate and got the bats rolling in the 5th inning, pulling away for a comfortable win in a game that was tied 1-1 in the 5th inning. The Wheelers were getting runners on base early, but Ella Richards and IKM-Manning were sharp, stranding 3 Audubon runners on base through 4 innings. Alexis Obermeier was in control for Audubon, limiting the Wolves to 2 hits through 4 innings. Both of those hits came in the 4th when Keagan Eischeid singled and Karlee Arp drove in Alikxa McGinn, who reached on a fielder’s choice. That tied the game at 1 as the Wheelers got a lead off single from Gemini Goodwin in the 3rd inning, scoring her on a sac fly from Jordan Porsch.

The game quickly changed in the 5th inning. Michelle Brooks led off the inning, getting on base. Gemini Goodwin singled, Mattie Nielsen put down a sac bunt but reached on a fielder’s choice, putting runners on 2nd and 3rd. Taryn Petersen knocked in a run with a fielder’s choice and the Wheelers were off and running. Riley Miller reached on an error and Alexis Obermeier singled, scoring two. The Wheelers were up 5-1 going into the bottom of the 5th. They added 6-runs in the 6th inning, batting ten girls in the inning. The Wolves defense was strong through four innings, had 2 errors in the 5th and 3 in the 6th inning with the first-two Wheelers reaching on an error. Mattie Nielsen had a 2 RBI double and Anna Larsen drove in a run with a double. Audubon was a strike away from ending the game in the 6th but Anna Stangl, who had singled to leadoff the bottom of the 6th scored on a wild pitch, cutting their deficit to 11-2. The Wheelers scored 5-runs in the 7th with several new players getting a chance to bat.

Alexis Obermeir and Taryn Petersen both had 3 hits for the Wheelers with Obermeier having 2 RBI and Petersen adding 3 RBI with a pair of runs scored. Mattie Nielsen had 2 hits with a double, driving in 2 and scoring twice. Riley Miller and Anna Larsen both doubled, driving in a run. Miller scored twice. Alexis Obermeier earned the win, going  7 innings, allowing 5 hits and 0 earned runs with 5 strikeouts.

Karlee Arp had an RBI single for IKM-Manning with Anna Stangl singling and scoring a run. Keagan Eischeid, Emma Branning and Ella Richards all had a base hit.

The Wheelers improved to 18-3 overall and 13-1 in the Western Iowa Conference, having won 15 straight. They head to Tri Center on Friday. IKM-Manning falls to 2-21 overall and 0-12 in the WIC. They host AHSTW on Friday.
