The Merchants have won three in a row, knocking off undefeated St Joseph’s on Wednesday at Merchants Park. They battled even with the Mustangs early, staying in the game, then the bullpen took over as they scored 3-runs late to win 9-6. St Joe’s scored 3-runs in the top 1st, but Carroll answered in the bottom half. Noah Dutler knocked in Jake McClure to get the Merchants on the board. Aiden Cizek singled to score Nolan Oliver and Xavier Lerma doubled to score Cizek, tying the game at 3. It looked early like the offenses would dominate. St Joe’s added a pair of runs in the 2nd inning, both unearned. Carroll again had a response in their half of the inning. Sammy Harris singled to score Jake McClure who singled. Nolan Oliver tied the game at 5, scoring on a wild pitch and Sammy Harris put Carroll up 6-5, scoring on a passed ball. St Joe’s tied the gam with a run in the top 3rd but this time the Merchants didn’t have a response. Neither team scored until Carroll got on the board in the bottom 6th. Sammy Harris continues to put up numbers for Carroll, hitting a hard liner that was caught but it scored Jake McClure. Noah Dutler followed it up with a solo home run. Carroll led 8-6 going to the 8th inning, then scored an insurance run when Sammy Harris doubled to score Jake McClure.
Jake McClure had a pair of hits but scored 4-runs while Sammy Harris had a double as part of 2 hits and drove in a pair of runs. Noah Dutler homered and drove in a pair of runs and Nolan Oliver scored twice. Michael Thompson earned the win, going 3 innings, allowing 8 hits with 5 earned runs with 3 strikeouts.
The win moves Carroll to 6-9 with the teams rematching in St Joseph on Thursday.
