The Kuemper Knights pick up a big conference win over Lewis Central on Monday. Both teams traded the lead early in the game. The Knights came out swinging with two runs in the top of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead. Lewis Central responded with three runs in the home half to take a 3-2 lead. Kuemper would take the lead back in the second inning at 4-3. The Knights would grow their lead over the next couple of innings to 6-3 going to the fifth. Lewis Central would cut into the Kuemper lead, placing one run in the fifth and one more in the sixth to make the scene 6-5 in favor of the Knights. Kuemper would add a run in the top of the seventh, and they would go on to win 7-5.

As a team, Kuemper recorded 11 hits. Benicio Lujano, Carter Putney, Josh Langel, and Mason Knerl each had multi-hit games. The Knights had three extra-base hits coming from Putney, Tristian Janson, and Aaron McDermott. Evan Loew recorded the other hit for the Knights. Janson picked up the win on the mound, going five innings, giving up four earned runs but striking out four Lewis Central hitters. With the win, Kuemper improved to 8-10. The Knights are back in action on Thursday against Harlan.

The Carroll Tigers pick up their fourth win of the season with an impressive win over Storm Lake. Carroll’s pitching was outstanding, striking out 11 Storm Lake hitters. Storm Lake scored first, plating two runs off of three hits in the top of the first to take their only lead at 2-0. In the home half of the first inning, Ryan North had an RBI groundout that put the Tigers on the board, making the score 2-1. In the bottom of the second Carroll was able to blow the game open. Tate Schlieisman had a three RBI triple in the second as Carroll would score seven runs to take an 8-2 lead. Neither team would score in the third and fourth innings. In the top of the first Storm Lake added a run to make the score 8-3. Carroll would add a lone run in the home half of the fifth as they would go on to win 9-3.

As a team, Carroll recorded six hits. Stone Sibenaller was 2-3 in the game with a couple of runs scored. Tate Schlieisman was 1-4 with a triple and three RBI. Carter Essick went 1-4 with a pair of RBIs. Jackson Gross and Jake Jorgensen recorded the other hits for Carroll. Tallon Crandall pitched an excellent game for the Tigers, striking out nine Storm Lake batters and giving up six hits. Crandall picked up the win on the hill, going five innings. With the win, Carroll improved to 4-8. The Tigers are back in action on Wednesday against Gilbert.

Tri-Center at IKM-Manning

The IKM-Manning Wolves fell at home to a good Tri-Center team, but the game was close for most of the contest. Tri-Center scored two runs in the top of the first inning to take an early 2-0 lead. IKM-Manning responded in the home half with a run cutting into the lead at 2-1. The Wolves would tie the game at 2-2 going into the fourth inning. Neither team scored in the fourth inning. In the top of the fifth inning, Tri-Center blew the game open, scoring 14 runs as they would go on to win 16-2.

IKM-Manning hit the ball well, recording six hits as a team. Jace Starman was 2-3 with a double and a run scored.  Ross Kusel, Lane Sams, Bryc Summerfield, and Brock Kusel recorded the other hits. Summerfield went four-plus innings on the hill, giving up five earned runs on seven hits. With the loss, IKM-Manning falls to 7-7. The Wolves are back in action on Wednesday against Griswold.

The Coon Rapids-Bayard Crusaders held the lead late but fell on the road at Newell-Fonda Tuesday. The Crusaders opened the game with a run in the top of the first inning, taking an early 1-0 lead. Newell-Fonda responded with three runs in the home half to take the lead at 3-1. The first couple of innings continued to be back and forth as CRB scored three times in the second to take a 4-3 lead. Newell-Fonda tied the game up in the home half, plating a run to make it 4-4. Neither team scored in the third and fourth innings. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Newell-Fonda took the lead back at 5-4. In the top of the sixth inning, the Crusaders regained the lead, plating four runs on a grand slam by Cal Heydon to take an 8-5 lead. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Newell-Fonda scored four times, and they went on to win 9-8.

As a team, the Crusaders recorded six hits. Cal Heydon was 2-4 with a triple, a home run, and six RBI. Kolby Culbertson, Ty Heydon, Parker Hays, and Tyler Mohr also recorded hits for CRB. Cade Behrens went five innings on the hill, striking out seven batters but giving up four earned runs. With the loss, the Crusaders fell to 9-8-1. Coon Rapids-Bayard is back in action on Wednesday against Woodbine.

The Audubon Wheelers trailed by four runs late in the game and went on to lose at home to Treynor. Audubon never led in the game but was able to hang around until late in the matchup. In the top of the first inning, Treynor scored four runs to take a 4-0 lead. In the home half, Audubon was able to cut into the lead, plating two runs to make it 4-2. Another run came across for the Cardinals in the second inning, Audubon added two in the home has, and Treynor held on to a 5-4 lead going to the third inning. Treynor added two runs in the third and three more in the fourth as their lead would grow to 10-4. Audubon cut into the lead again in the bottom of the fourth to make it a 10-6 ballgame. Both teams scored two runs each in the fifth inning, and zero runs came across in the fifth. Treynore added five more in the seventh as they would go on to win 17-8 over Audubon.

The Wheeles hit the ball well, with eight hits as a team. Audubon did strike out ten times at the plate during the game. Aaron Olsen was 2-4 with a double and a couple of RBI. Brody Schultes also doubled and drove in two RBI. Carson Wessel and Colton Hansen each had multi-hit games. Adam Obrecht took the loss on the mound, going three-plus innings, giving up ten hits, and striking out five Treynor batters. With the loss, Audubon falls to 1-13-1. The Wheelers are back in action on Thursday against Underwood.
