The Kuemper Knights drop their first conference game of the year in game one of a varsity doubleheader at Creston on Monday. The Knights struggled on defense in the first game, committing six errors, which led to five unearned runs. Creston scored first, plating a run in the home half of the first inning, taking a 1-0 lead. Kuemper would tie the game up momentarily in the top of the second inning at 1-1. Creston took the lead back in the home half of the second inning, taking a 3-1 lead. Neither team scored in the third inning. The Creston lead would extended in the fourth inning, plating three runs, making the score 6-1. Three more runs came across in the fifth, and the Creston lead grew to 9-1. Kuemper would score one run in the top of the sixth but would go on to lose 9-2 in game one.

The Knights only managed four hits. Evan Loew, Ethan Loew, Benicio Lujano, and Tristan Janson picked up the hits for Kuemper. Mson Knerl picked four innings for the Knights, picking up the loss on the hill. Knerl gave up four earned runs on six hits.

The Kuemper Knights only managed one hit in the second game, as they would drop both games of a varsity doubleheader. Creston scored three runs in the home half of the first inning to take a 3-0 lead. Neither team scored in the second and third innings. The Knights played clean defense but struck out 12 times. Creston added another run in the fourth inning to take a 4-0 lead. Carter Putney picked over five innings but took the loss on the hill in a 4-0 loss to Creston. Putney gave up four earned runs but struck out six Creston batters. Kuemper only recorded one hit coming off the bat of Tristian Janson. With the losses, Kuemper falls to 7-10. The Knights are back in action on Tuesday against Lewis Central.

The South Central Calhoun Titans drop a game on the road to Alta-Aurelia. The game only lasted five innings but plated four runs. SCC scored one run at the top of the first inning, but Alta-Aurelia responded with six in the home half to score 6-1. Both teams scored one run in the second inning to make the score 7-2. The closest the game would be was 7-4 in the third inning. In the home half of the third inning, Alta-Aurelia scored two runs. The Warriors would add two more runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth to go on and win 14-4.

South Central Calhoun recorded eight hits as a team. Andrew Anderson, Kaden Dorman, and Marshall Bundt recorded multi-hit games. Charlie Nattress and Caleb Juhl picked up the other hits for the Titans. Marshall Bundt took the loss on the hill, going 2/3 innings and giving up four earned runs. With the loss, SCC falls to 5-6 and 3-2 in the Twin Lakes Conference. The Titans are back in action on Wednesday against Pocahontas Area.

The game was a pitching and defense game as East Sac County fell at home Monday. The Raiders picked up nine hits as a team but only managed one run during the game. Neither team scored for the game’s first five innings, as it was tied 0-0 going to the sixth. In the top of the sixth inning, Newell-Fonda scored two runs to take the lead at 2-0. The lead would grow as three more runs came across for the Mustangs, and their lead would increase to 5-0. East Sac County attempted a comeback, but it fell short, and they would go on to lose 5-1.

Bradyn Burns went 2-4 at the plate. Landon Sporrer also recorded a multi-hit game, going 2-4, with a double and an RBI. Luke Wernimont was 2-3 for the Raiders. Luke Wright, Tucker Grosely, and Zach Jacobsen picked up the other hits for East Sac County. Karter Ludwig picked up the loss on the hill, going five innings, giving up one hit, and striking out one batter. With the loss, ESC falls to 2-7. The Raiders are back in action against Southeast Valley on Wednesday.

The Ar-We-Va Rockets struggled on the road defensively on Monday and pitching in a loss to Boyer Valley. Neither team scored in the first inning. Boyer Valley scored in the bottom of the second, taking a 3-0 lead over Ar-We-Va. Ar-We-Va tied the game at 3-3 in the third inning. Boyer Valley would take the lead back in the home half of the third, and it would grow over the rest of the game as they went on to beat Ar-We-Va 13-3 in six innings.

As a team, the Rockets recorded six hits. Wade Ragaller was 2-3 with an RBI. Johnathan Riesselman was 1-3 with a double and an RBI. Blayne Smith, Weston Toft, and Derek Thomsen recorded the other hits for the Rockets. Riesselman picked up the loss, going three innings on the mound, giving up seven earned runs on eight hits. With the loss, Ar-We-Va falls to 0-5. The Rockets are back in action on Wednesday against Glidden-Ralston.

The Coon Rapids-Bayard Crusaders picked up their ninth win of the season with a shutout victory over Exira-EHK. Cal Heydon and Kolbu Culbertson helped CRB to the win. Heydon pitched a complete game shutout, striking out 17 Exira-EHK batters. Culbertson hit three home runs and recorded eight RBI. Cal Heydon led off with a ground-rule double in the top of the first inning. The next at-bat, Kolby Culbertson picked up a two-run home run. The Crusaders would take a 2-0 lead going to the second inning. In the second, Culbertson picked up his second home run of the game, this time a three-run shot to make the score 5-0 in favor of Coon Rapids-Bayard. Neither team scored in the next three innings, and CRB would hold on to a 5-0 lead in the sixth inning. In the sixth inning, the Crusaders added three more runs off a three-run home run by Kolby Culbertson to make the score 8-0. One more run came across in the seventh, and CRB would go on to win 7-0.

Cal Heydon picked up the win on the hill, going all seven innings, giving up two hits, and striking out 17 Exira-EHK hitters. As a team, Coon Rapids-Bayard recorded six hits. Kolby Culbertson was 3-3 with three home runs and eight RBI. Ty Heydon and Caden Oswald each singled in the win. Cal Heydon was 1-2 at the plate with a double for the Crusaders. With the win, CRB improved to 9-7. The Crusaders are back in action on Tuesday against Newell-Fonda.

The Glidden-Ralston Wildcats ran into a good Woodbine team on the road Monday. The Wildcats took an early lead in the first inning, plating a run to take a 1-0 lead. Woodbine responded with two runs in the home half of the first to take a 2-1 lead. Glidden-Ralston would add another run in the second to make the score 3-2 in favor of Woodbine. The Tigers opened the game up in the bottom of the second inning plating seven runs to take. 9-2 lead. Woodbine scored again in the third, plating one run, and then added eight more in the fourth to win 18-3 over Glidden-Ralston. The Wildcats recorded four hits as a team. Blayce Nelson was 1-2 with a double and a run scored. Jonathan Bergmeier, Mark Lensch, and Landon Rohrbeck picked up the other hits for Glidden-Ralston. Daniel Thoof picked up the loss on the hill. Thoof went two innings, giving up nine runs on two hits. With the loss, Glidden-Ralston falls to 2-8. The Wildcats are back in action on Wednesday against Ar-We-Va.

Carroll had some chances, leaving 8 runners on base but also committed 4 errors, allowing 4 unearned runs as Winterset pulled away in the 7th inning to earn a 6-2 win. The Tigers tied the game at 1 in the bottom of the 2nd inning when Jake Jorgensen scored on a wild pitch. That would be the only run they would muster until the bottom of the 7th. London Petersen singled and scored on a wild pitch, pulling Carroll within 4. The Huskies extended their lead in the top half of the 7th inning. A Tiger miscue with runners on 2nd and 3rd allowed 2-runs to score, then a bloop single added 2 more runs, giving the Huskies a 6-1 lead. 

Stone Sibenaller pitched well, taking the loss with 5 hits and 2 earned runs in 6 innings. He struck out 3 and walked 3 with 2 hit-by-pitches. Landon Petersen, Tate Schleisman, Ryan North and Carter Essick, all had a base hit with Petersen scoring. Jake Jorgensen added the other run for the Tigers. 

The loss drops Carroll to 3-8 overall and 0-7 in the Raccoon River Conference. They host Storm Lake on Tuesday.

Audubon struggled, collecting 1 hit when Jack Stanerson doubled in the 5th inning. Aaron Olsen and Brody Schultes walked to load the bases and Stanerson scored on an error on a ground ball by Carson Wessel. The Wheelers walked six times in the game with Aaron Olsen walking twice and Brody Schultes, Evan Alt, Carson Wessel and Adam Obrecht all walking once. Riverside responded quickly in the bottom 5th, scoring a pair of runs to end the game. They got a 2 out double with a pair of runners on base. 

Jack Stanerson had a double and scored their lone run of the game. Aaron Olsen went 3 innings, allowing 3 hits and 5 earned runs with 2 strikeouts. 

The Wheelers saw their one game winning streak snapped, falling to 1-12-1 overall with a home game with Treynor on Tuesday.
