Ar-We-Va at Coon Rapids-Bayard

Coon Rapids-Bayard and Ar-We-Va played a great game Wednesday, showing strengths in the pitching circle and on defense. Both pitchers started strong in the circle. In the game, there were six combined hits. Both sides sent down the first six batters, and they faced them with ease. In the fourth inning, Ar-We-Va was able to get runners on base, working a couple of walks, but a double played ended the inning. In the middle inning, Ar-We-Va had runners on base in each but were unable to capitalize. The Rockets final broke threw in the top of the fifth on an RBI single from Emma Lieting to make it 1-0. In the home half of the fifth, Breeley Clayburg sparked the Crusader’s offense with a lead-off double. She later came around to score to tie the game up at 1-1. In the sixth inning, Ar-We-Va was able to put a couple of runners on base again, but CRB got out of a jam. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Anna Hart led the inning off with a triple and came around to score on the next at-bat. The Rockets were unable to score in the seventh inning, and the Crusaders were able to go on and win a tight game   2-1.

Anna Hart and Amber Ragaller put on a showing in the circle for their respective teams. Anna Hart went all seven innings, picking up the win, giving up two hits, and striking out seven hitters. Hart also went 1-3 at the plate with a triple. Ragaller also pitched seven innings for Ar-We-Va, giving up four hits and two earned runs but striking out five Crusader batters. For the Crusaders, Breeley Clayburg was 1-3 with a double. The other CRB hits came from Amelia Eddy and Malia Clayburg. For the Rockets, Emma Lieting was 1-4 with an RBI. Delaney Schurke picked up the other hits for Ar-We-Va.

With the win, CRB improved their record to 4-4. The loss drops Ar-We-Va to 0-2. The Rockets are back in action on Monday against Boyer Valley. The Crusaders return to the diamond on Friday against CAM.

East Sac County at GTRA

The East Sac County Raider went on the road and dropped a close game Wednesday. The Raiders started slow offensively. In the home half of the first inning, GTRA scored three runs to take an early 3-0 lead. ESC had runners on base but was unable to push a run across in the first three innings. The Raiders would cut into the GTRA lead in the fourth inning, plating one run, making the score 3-1. East Sac County tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the sixth inning. The game would stay tied going to the bottom of the seventh inning. In the home half of the seventh, GTRA would walk it off, winning 4-3.

As a team, the Raiders recorded six hits. Jamie Pierce continued her great start to the season, going 2-4 with a double. Gracie Snyder, Anna McCollough, Kendall Quirk, and Miranda Gerdes recorded the other hits for ESC. Gerdes suffered the loss in the circle, pitching all seven innings, giving up two earned runs but striking out 11 GTRA batters. With the loss, East Sac County falls to 3-3. The Raiders are back in action on Thursday against Strom Lake St. Mary’s.
