Carroll Merchants At Clarinda
The Carroll Merchants earned their first win of the season, scoring 3-runs in the 8th inning to top Clarinda on the road on Saturday. The rally started with back-to-back hit-by-pitches to start the inning with Jordan Brandenburg and Aidan Cizek reaching base. Cizek took 3rd and Branenburg moved to 2nd on a ground out, setting the stage. Cizek scored on a wild pitch before Jae Kim walked to put runners on 1st and 3rd. Carroll worked a double steal with Brandenburg scoring from 3rd. A second wild pitch with a runner at 3rd, helped the Merchants score their third run of the inning, putting them up 7-4. Clarinda scored a run bottom 8th but the Merchants held on in the bottom of the 9th, stranding a A’s runner at 3rd base.
The Merchants took their first lead of the game, scoring a run in the 2nd inning, then expanded the lead to 4-0 in the top of the 5th inning. Bryce Hoskinson singled with 2-outs to start the rally. Arrington Eason walked and Sammy Harris singled to score Hoskinson. Logan Harris singled to load the bases. Nolan Oliver walked to score a run and Sammy Harris would score to put the Merchants up 4-0. Clarinda responded with 4-runs in the bottom of the 5th to tie the game. They started the inning with three singles and a double to plate a pair of runs, then added a run on a wild pitch and a stolen base.
