Baseball Results Saturday, June 1st 

Kuemper hosts CYO Tournament 

Kuemper dropped both games of the CYO Tournament on Saturday after the game was moved to Carroll on Friday night due to heavy rain in LeMars. The Knights opened the day with Bishop Heelan, picking up a pair of hits and scoring their lone run in the 6th inning. Heelan charged out quickly, scoring 3-runs in the 1st inning and 2-runs in both the 2nd and 3rd innings. Heelan out hit the Knights 11-2, driving in 9 of their 10-runs. Carter Putney and Evan Loew each had a hit for Kuemper with Putney collecting an RBI. Logan Rial scored the lone Kuemper run, scoring on the Putney single with 2-outs in the 6th inning. The Knights had St Mary’s in their second game of the day, struggling to score early, getting their lone run in the 7th inning. The game was tight in the 6th with St Mary’s leading 2-0 through 5 innings. They used a Kuemper error in the 3rd to take a 1-0 lead, extending it to 2-0 on another Kuemper error in the 4th inning. The Hawks added 4-runs in the 6th inning on a three hits, including a triple and a pair of walks. John Boes walked in the 7th and scored on a passed ball after Carter Putney and Ethan Loew walked to load the bases.

The losses, drops Kuemper to 3-6 on the season as they head to Harlan on KKRL on Monday.

IKM-Manning At MVAOCOU Tournament 

IKM-Manning split their two games on Saturday in Mapleton, knocking off the host Rams but falling to Woodbine. The Knights received a great pitching performance against MVAOCOU. Jace Starman threw a no-hitter while striking out 8 in going the distance. The offense collected 9-hits, scoring in the 1st inning, then adding 2 more runs in the 3rd inning. They salted the game away in the 5th inning with another run. The Wolves had four players with 2-hits each. Jace Starman didn’t just star on the mound, he had a double and scored a run, Kasche Huehn, Ross Kusel and Braden Fuchs all had 2-hits with Huehn driving in a run and scoring and Fuchs finishing with an RBI. Zander Richards walks 4 times and scored a run. Woodbine jumped out early against the Wolves, scoring 3-runs in the 1st inning and 4 more in the 2nd inning. The Wolves finished the game with 3 hits, scoring in the 6th inning. The Tigers scored 3-runs in the bottom 6th to end the game. Jace Starman, Zander Richards and Brock Kusel each had a hit for IKM-Manning.

The Wolves finished the week 4-4 and will head to Treynor on Monday.

Coon Rapids Bayard hosts Tournament

Kolby Culbertson allowed a pair of hits to open the game against Bedford, then settled in to strikeout the next five batters he faced as he was nearly untouchable the rest of the game, giving up 4 hits and no runs while striking out 8. The Crusaders offense left a runner at 3rd in the 1st inning before breaking through in the 3rd inning. Max Shirbroun singled to start the rally. Kolby Culbertson reached on an error and Cal Heydon promptly doubled to right-center, scoring a pair of Crusaders. Heydon later scored on a single by Parker Hays, who had a great game bunting. The lead stayed 3-0 into the 5th inning when Cal Heydon doubled again and scored on an error. Parker Hays walked and scored on an error and Jace Baker singled and scored on a passed ball. Culbertson allowed 2 baserunners over his final 2 2/3 innings. Caden Oswald finished the game on the hill, getting the final out.

Coon Rapids Bayard faced Kee in the title game, falling 12-6 as the Kee Hawks scored in every inning. Coon Rapids Bayard pitched five players, limiting their pitches as they have a busy week coming up. They combined to allow 8-hits and 12-runs with 6-earned runs with 10 walks and 2 strikeouts. The Crusaders finished with 10-hits including 3 doubles. They didn’t break through until the 4th inning, scoring a pair of runs. They trailed 5-0 going into the 4th. Kee responded with 5-runs in the bottom of the 4th to lead 10-2, then added a run in the 5th and 6th inning to lead 12-2. Coon Rapids Bayard rallied in the 6th with 4-runs but fell short. Cal Heydon doubled twice again for the Crusaders, driving in a run and scoring a run. Tyler Mohr had 3 hits, collecting 2 RBI and scoring a run. Caden Oswald added a pair of hits and Kolby Culbertson doubled and drove in a pair of runs.

Coon Rapids Bayard is 4-5-1 heading into their game at Glidden Ralston on Monday.
