Carroll and Kuemper At Ogden Tournament

Carroll was out  hit 10-2 in their first game on Saturday but had to feel like they let a win slip through their finger tips. The Tigers took advantage of several walks early to build a 3-0 lead, but they allowed 3-unearned runs in the bottom of the 6th and gave up a run in the 7th to fall 6-5. Carroll led 5-2 going into the 6th before SE Valley rallied. Both teams due to time restraints started their half of the 7th inning with a runner on 2nd base. Carroll was picked off trying to steal 3rd and SE Valley got a 2-out base hit with runners on 2nd and 3rd to end the game.

Kloee Jones and Parker Adams walked in the 1st inning for Carroll and the Tigers were aggressive on the base paths, steals 10 of 10 bases in the game and routinely taking 2nd base on walks with runners on 3rd. They scored a pair of runs in the 1st on a wild pitch and a stolen base. A leadoff walk in the 4th by Emma Kuhlmann led to their 3rd run after Olivia Rowedder bunted Kuhlmann to 3rd, Jersey Sporrer drove her in. Averi Burke held the Jaguars hitless though 3 innings but a Tiger miscue started a rally in the 4th. SE Valley used a base hit and an error to get on the board, trailing 3-1 after four innings. A Jaguar error and helped Carroll score a pair of runs in the 5th, giving them a 5-1 lead. SE Valley cut it to 5-2 in the 5th then scored a three runs in the 6th, helped by an early Tiger error. The Jaguars strung three hits together in the inning and tied the game at 5. Carroll wasn’t able to score in the 7th and SE Valley got a 1-out base hit to put runners on 1st and 3rd, then scored on a 2-out base hit to end the game.

Kloee Jones and Jersey Sporrer had Carroll’s only hits with Jones scoring twice and Sporrer driving in a run. Averi Burke went 6 2/3 innings, allowing 10 hits and 1 earned run with 5 strikeouts.

Carroll Vs Greene County

Carroll took advantage of every mistake made by Greene County, scoring four times in the 1st inning before blowing the game open with 8-runs in the 5th inning. Greene County had three errors but was hurt by 9 walks and 2 hit-by-pitches, helping Carroll steal 23 bases, putting a lot of pressure on the Rams defense. The Tigers allowed only 2 hits and didn’t walk anyone, limiting the number of baserunners. Back-to-back walks followed by two straight hit-by-pitches in the 1st inning helped Carroll score 4-runs in the 1st inning on no hits. The Tigers scored 8-runs in the top 5th on three hits, one by Averi Burke and Kloee Jones the other from Emma Kuhlmann. Carroll used five walks to keep runners constantly on base.

Averi Burke had a pair of hits and earned the win in the circle, going 4 innings, allowing 2 hits with 5 K’s. Parker Adams doubled and Jersey Sporrer was 2-2 with an RBI and scored twice. Kloee Jones drove in a pair of runs and scored a run. Olivia Rowedder, Amanda Wardell and Emma Danner all scored twice.

Carroll moved to 1-3 on the season and will take on Kuemper at the little league complex on Tuesday on KIKD 106.7.

Kuemper Vs Des Moines Christian

Kuemper out hit Des Moines Christian 6 to 4 but weren’t able to take advantage of the baserunners, falling 7-2 in their opening game in Ogden on Saturday. Des Moines Christian took advantage of seven walks from Kuemper. The Lions struck for a pair of runs in the 1st inning before stretching the lead to 5-0 in the top of the 3rd. Kuemper looked to battle back in the bottom half with Chloe Gehling getting on base and scoring on a wild pitch. The Knights added their second run in the 5th. Morgan Masching singled and scored on a fielders choice from Kaylie Diercksen, after moving to 2nd base on a base hit from Charlotte Schwabe.

Kaci Peter and Morgan Masching both had 2 hits and Chloe Gehling had a base hit and scored. Masching scored the Knights other run and Kaylie Diercksen drove in a run.

Boone used a 9-run 2nd inning to put the Knights in a deficit they weren’t able to battle back from, ending the game in three innings. The Knights got a base hit from Charlotte Schwabe with 2-outs in the 1st but didn’t score and Boone took advantage. They started a rally with 1-out in the 2nd getting eight straight batters on base, collecting six hits during the streak and getting a walk and an Knight error. Boone put three straight hits on the board in the 3rd to score 3-runs to lead 12-0. Kuemper had runners on 2nd and 3rd in the bottom 3rd but weren’t able to score, ending the game.

Kaci Peter, Charlotte Schwabe and Kyla Wiskus collected a hit for Kuemper.

The pair of losses drops them to 2-2 on the season heading into Tuesday’s home game with Carroll on KIKD 106.7.

IKM-Manning collected three hits but ran into a buzzsaw in the host team Clarinda in their tournament on Saturday. The Cardinals scored 14-runs in the 1st inning, then added 7 more in the 2nd to end the game. Anna Stangl, Karlee Arp and Abby Wanser all had 1 hit with Hannah McKinney scoring a run and driving in a run and Keagan Eisched driving in a run. Emma Branning scored a run for the Wolves.

IKM-Manning battled hard against West Central Valley, scoring in the 1st and 5th innings and holding the Wildcats to no  more than 2-runs in an inning. West Central Valley collected 15 hits but the Wolves made some plays to get out of trouble numerous times in the game. The Wolves collected six hits with an Hannah McKinney picking up a pair of hits, including a double. She scored once and drove in a run. Emma Branning added a pair of hits and scored once. Alikxa McGinn and Reagan Hoffman both had a base hit.

IKM-Manning jumped out early, scoring 4-runs in the 1st inning and then held off a rally by Essex to earn their second win of the season.  The Wolves lead moved to 5-1 in the top of the 4th but the Trojans grabbed the lead in the bottom of the 4th with 5-runs. IKM-Manning responded nicely with a pair of runs in the 5th to reclaim the lead for good.  The Wolves had 10 hits, highlighted by a home run from Karlee Arp. She added a double to go with 3 RBI and scored twice. Hannah  McKinney had a strong tournament, finishing this game with a pair of hits and scoring twice. Alikxa McGinn added 2 hits as did Keagan Eischeid who also scored a pair of runs and drove in a run. Eischeid was strong in the cirlce, allowing 4 hits in 6 innings to earn the win. She struck out 7 while allowing only 1 earned run.

The Wolves are 2-4 on the season, heading into the game against Missouri Valley on Tuesday.
