Kuemper jumped out early but IKM-Manning battled back late before the Knights edged away for the win in the season opener for both teams. Myli Schaefer was fantastic in the circle for Kuemper with 12 strikeouts while Ella Richards kept throwing strikes and though Kuemper finished with 16 hits, the Wolves defense kept coming up with plays to limit the damage after the 1st inning, keeping themselves within striking distance.
IKM-Manning struck first as Anna Stangl ripped a triple to right field to leadoff the game. She scored on an RBI ground ball by Alikxa McGinn. Kuemper collected five hits in the bottom of the 1st inning, scoring 3-runs with Kaylie Diercksen and Ellie Sibbel doubling and picking up an RBI along with Myli Schaefer. Mylie Schaefer struck out six straight Wolves from the 1st to the 3rd innings but the Wolves hung close, allowing a single run in the 2nd with Morgan Masching walking, stealing 2nd base and scoring on a single by Ally Sommerfeld. Allison Ostrander added an RBI single to score Sarah Batz in the 3rd inning and Kuemper led 5-1. IKM-Manning chipped away with Alikxa McGinn scoring in the 4th inning on a Knight error. They added three more runs in the 5th inning and had a chance to add more. Lauren Greving walked to leadoff the inning. Caylie Rasmussen ran for her and would score later in the inning. Hannah McKinney reached on an error and Anna Stangl singled. Karlee Arp was hit-by-pitch to load the bases and Alikxa McGinn reached on an error, scoring a run. Keagan Eischied sac fly added the third run of the inning and the Wolves were down 6-5 going bottom 5th. Kuemper answered in the bottom half with Morgan Masching bunting for a single and scoring on an Ally Sommerfeld single after Masching had stolen 2nd and 3rd bases. Kaylie Diercksen drove in Sommerfeld and the Knights stretched the lead to 8-5 going to the 6th. Kuemper added an insurance run in the 6th and IKM-Manning pushed across a run in the top 7th but Myli Schaefer got a strikeout to end the game.
Myli Schaefer went 7 innings to earn the win, allowing 4-hits and 1 earned run. She struck out 12 while going 3-4 at the plate with an RBI. Kaylie Diercksen added 3 hits with a pair of doubles and 2 RBI while Ally Sommerfeld had 3 hits and 2 RBI, Charlotte Schwabe had a pair of hits and scored twice and Morgan Masching scored twice and stole 3 bases.
Anna Stangl had 2 hits with a triple and scored once to lead IKM-Manning. Alikxa McGinn drove in a run and scored with Keagan Eischeid earning her first varsity base hit. Ella Richards suffered the loss while striking out 5 and walking 2.
Kuemper is 1-0 and hosts Ridge View on Friday while IKM-Manning starts 0-1 and will host Boyer Valley on Thursday.

Carroll gave up 6-runs in the top of the 1st inning to the 10th ranked team in the State, then hung tough and played well the rest of the game. ADM added 3-runs top of the 7th to push their lead to double digits. Carroll’s bats struggled against ADM pitching, collecting 5 hits while striking out 12 times. Parker Adams finished with two of those hits, singling in the 6th inning leading to Analia Ayala scoring as a courtesy runner when Emma Kuhlmann drove her home. The defense was strong most of the game as Carroll finished with two errors. ADM is a strong hitting team finishing with 14 hits.
Parker Adams led Carroll with 2 hits with Kloee Jones, Averi Burke and Olivia Rowedder having their other hits. Emma Kuhlmann had an RBI and Analia Ayala scored a run.
Carroll opens the season 0-1 and hosts top ranked North Polk on Thursday.

A rough 2nd inning put the Raiders behind the 8-ball on Wednesday night in their season opener. The Cougars took advantage of a couple two out errors, scoring 5-runs to take a 7-0 lead. East Sac settled in over the next few innings and tried to chip away at the deficit. They broke through in the 4th inning when Jamie Pierce was hit-by-pitch. She stole 2nd and 3rd base and scored as the ball got away from the 3rd baseman. Miranda Gerdes kept the momentum going in the top 5th, striking out the side but East Sac couldn’t add any offense in the bottom 5th. Manson NW Webster added 4-runs top 6th and finished the game holding East Sac in their half of the inning.
Kendall Quirk and Kami Ross both had base hits for East Sac with Jamie Pierce scoring their run. Miranda Gerdes pitched well, going 4 innings with 7 strikeouts while walking only 2.
The Raiders are 0-1 and will host Cherokee on Thursday.
