Brincks Exteriors Sports Report: Recap and Results for Friday State Track Results

2A and 3A session

Day two of the 2024 state track meet started fast for area athletes with everything kicking off at 9:00 AM. The Audubon girls distance medley team started the day off with a 16th place finish. Jaelynn Petersen, Taryn Petersen, Mattie Nielsen, and Kadence Brannan Sporrer ran a time of 4:23.05. Zakiah Pettigrew ran in 110 high hurdles for South Central Calhoun. Pettigrew finished 22nd with a time of 16.16. The same four that ran the distance medley for the Wheelers ran the 4×400. Nielsen, Brannan Sporrer, Jaelynn Petersen, and Taryn Petersen ran a time of 4:13.18 which was good for 21st. The Carroll girls 4×400 team qualified for the finals on Saturday. Marasyn Wittrock, Averi Burke, Katelyn Aden, and Marie Dea ran a time of 4:00.86. Carroll qualified with the third fastest time in the 4×400.

It was a busy day for field events across both boys’ and girls’ classes Friday. Emma Kuhlmann and Olivia Rowedder of Carroll competed in the shot put for the Tigers. Kuhlmann just missed the finals placing 11th with a throw of 36-7.25. Rowedder threw in the first flight and finished 16th. Her best throw was 35-9.75.  Ellie Sibbel of Kuemper and Tristin Gorden of South Central Calhoun competed in the class 2A discus throw Friday morning. Sibbel finished 19th with a throw of 105-2. Tristin Gorden wrapped up a great freshman season with a 24th place finish in the discus. Gorden’s best throw was 85-9.

The Class 2A boys high jump was good for Carroll Broadcasting Sports Network participants. Ben Gerken of Kuemper finished tied for fourth with a jump of 6-3. Andrew Anderson of South Central Calhoun finished in 6th with a jump of 6-3. Evan Adams wrapped up a busy week for the Kuemper Knights in the discus. Adams qualified for the finals.  In the finals Evan finished fourth with a throw of 161-0.

Class 1A session

The class 1A session of Friday was busy with field events. Across boys and girls five different kids competed in a field event. In the class 1A boys’ high jump. Trevon Keely of Paton Churdan finished in second clearing 6-05. Keely is only a freshman. Kolby Culbertson of Coon Rapids-Bayard wrapped up a third-place finish in the high jump also clearing 6-05. Ross Kusel of IKM-Manning finished 20th clearing 5-09. Nolan Kerkhoff of IKM-Manning competed in the 1A boy’s discus. Kerkhoff threw in the first flight and finished 21th with a throw of 114-0.

In the running portion of class 1A the IKM-Manning 4×200 team of Taylor Beckendorf, Grace Carroll, Oriah Meiners, and Caylie Rasmussen finished in 16th with a time of 1:50.08. The IKM-Manning boys pick up a medal with a 6th place finish in the 4×200. The Crusaders of Coon Rapids-Bayard also competed in the 1A 4×200 finishing tenth. Wyatt Oswald, Kolby Culbertson, Cal Heydon, Caden Oswald ran a time of 1:33.04. The Audubon boys’ team was disqualified in the distance medley and Jonathan Bergmeier of Glidden-Ralston also was disqualified in the 110 hurdles. The Wolves continued to run well on Friday with a 20th place finish in the boy’s distance medley. Jase Lueth, Ross Kusel, Abe Polzien, Lane Sams ran a time of 3:44.26.

The relay races picked as the night went on. The IKM-Manning boys 4×200 team placed sixth overall with a run of 1:32.36. Ross Kusel, Jase Lueth, Abe Polzein and Davis Rasmussen competed in the event for the wolves. In the 1A 4×400 for IKM-Manning the wolves finished in 24th with a time of 4:27.88. Taylor Beckendorf, Laynie Gawley, Addisyn Bandow, and Caylie Rasmussen ran in the event. The Wolves girls 4×200 team set a PR with a run of 1:50.08. Taylor Beckendorf, Grace Carroll, Oriah Meiners, and Caylie Rasmussen finished in 16th. The CRB Crusaders 4×100 team also set a PR with a run of 47.76. Wyatt Oswald, Kolby Culbertson, Parker Hays, and Caden Oswald finished in 12th.  Audubon moved up seven spots in the 4×400, coming in seeded 19th, then finished 12th with a strong run from all four guys. The Wheelers Boyss 4×400 ran a 3:31.97 with Aaron Olsen, Zeke Konkler, Adam Obrecht and Brody Schultes. IKM-Manning had a strong run as well, moving into 5th place in their heat and finishing 15th overall with a 3:33.10. The Wolves 4×400 consisted of Abe Polzien, Jase Lueth, Justin Segebart and Ross Kusel.
