State Track Results Thursday, May 16th

Class 2A and 3A

The 2024 state track meet got kicked off with a bang as seven local events started with in the first hour of the meet. The Audubon Wheelers girls shuttle hurdle team started the day off with a 19th place finish. Taryn Petersen, Mattie Nielsen, Jaelynn Petersen, and Michelle Brooks ran a time of 1:11.51. In the 3A girls shuttle hurdle the Carroll Tigers finished in 11th overall. Averi Burke, Katelyn Aden, Olivia Rowedder, and Autumn Fortner ran a time of 1:09.61 which was a PR.  In the 3000 Iris Melody of South Central Calhoun finished 13th with a time of 10:58.61. Chloe Judisch of South Central Calhoun dominated her section in the Class 2A 400 Meters, taking the early lead and finishing in 1st place, taking 13th overall with a time of 1:00.11. Marie Dea of Carroll had a strong run in the Class 3A 400 Meters, leading the first 200-Meters. Dea was just off setting a new PR, taking 5th place in a time of 57.77.

For Field events Tristin Gorden and Ellie Sibbel competed in the 2A shot put. Sibbel finished in 10th with her best throw being 37-0.75, Gorden qualified for the finals and finished ninth with a throw of 37-1.25. In the 3A discus Olivia Rowedder of Carroll finished 11th. Rowedder’s best throw was 110-05. The Kuemper Knights continued to compete well on Thursday as Morgan Masching finished in 21st in the long jump with a 15-2.25.

For the boys in the morning Parker Engel, Isaiah Aragon, and Jacob Greving all competed in the 3200. Aragon of East Sac broke a school recorded with a run of 9:58.78 which was good for 12th. Jacob Greving  of Kuemper was not far behind as he finished 14th with a time of 10:04.09. Engel of East Sac finished in 18th in the 3200 with a time of 10:21.67. In the 2A 4×800 Kuemper finished 24th. Thomas Pottebaum, Ryan Sundrup, Wyatt Wunschel, and Jacob Greving picked up a PR running a time of 8:31.29. DJ Vonnahme of Kuemper was DQ in the Class 2A 100 Meters.

In field events for 2A Ben Gerken of Kuemper competed in the first flight and finished 23rd. Gerken’s best jump was 18-11. Evan Adams of Kuemper also competed in the shot put during the morning session. Adams finished in 12th with his best throw being 49-09.75.

 

Class 1A Session

The Audubon Boys Shuttle Hurdle with Aaron Olsen, Brody Schultes, Gabe Jensen and Mason Steckler had a strong run-on Thursday afternoon in the prelims, setting a season best tie of 1:04.29. They fell just short of qualifying for the finals, taking 13th but improved over the season by over four seconds. The Coon Rapids Bayard had a strong run, taking 2nd in their heat, finishing with a 1:04.16. Johnny Cortez, Parker Hays, Lucas Obert and Cal Heydon finished in 11th overall.  The IKM-Manning Boys 4×800 all went out fast, looking to be under a minute pace for the first lap. They hang around the top third of the race for most of the race, finishing 5th in their section. They ran an 8:30.92, taking 15th place overall with Abe Polzien, Ben Ramsey, Isaac Blankman and Lane Sams. The area was well represented in the Class 1A 100 Meters with three local athletes competing. Caden Oswald of Coon Rapids Bayard, coming off qualifying for the 200 Finals on Saturday with a school record, ran a personal best 11.17 and finished 12th overall. Aaron Olsen had run in the shuttle hurdle earlier in the afternoon, coming back to run in the fast heat, finishing 5th in the heat and 17th overall with a 11.33. Davis Rasmussen of IKM-Manning felt he ran well but said it wasn’t his fastest time of the season.  He finished 24th with a 11.67. 

Wyatt Ragaller of Ar-We-Va had his best jump in the Long Jump on his second attempt. He jumped 19-06.75, a nice adjustment after slipping on the board on his first attempt. Ragaller took 17th place overall. Caden Oswald of the CRB Crusades qualified for the finals on Saturday in the 200. Oswald qualifies fifth after running a time of 22.34 which was a school record. 

IKM-Manning kicked off the local running events Thursday in the girls 2A 4×800. The Wolves set a new PR. Taylor Beckendorf, Alikxa McGinn, Raegan Garrison, and Addisyn Bandow ran a time of 10:20.12. Coon Rapids Bayard got a strong start from Lauren Cook and all four girls ran well with Malia Clayburg leaning at the finish line to take 2nd in their heat. The Crusaders ran a 1:11.82, finishing 12th overall with 12th Lauren Cook, Aubrey Hofbauer, Amelia Eddy and Malia Clayburg. Abby Neilheisel, Grace Carroll, Anna Stangl and Abby Wanser ran for IKM-Manning, started strong, running just off their season best time, finishing in 1:113.11. They finished 18th overall. 

Maddy Mason of Coon Rapids Bayard had her second-best throw of the season in the Shot Put on Thursday afternoon. Her first throw went 34-04, just shy of her season best. Mason finished 15th in the event overall. Cal Heydon continued his busy afternoon Thursday as he competed in the 1A shot put. Heydon finished in tenth with his best throw being 46-10.50.
