Kuemper rallied in the bottom of the 7th, scoring all 5-runs after being no-hit through 6-innings. Brady Andrews was in charge for Des Moines Christian, having struck out 11 through 5 2/3 innings. He was big at the plate for the Lions as well, starting the game with a triple, helping Des Moines Christian take a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning. Andrews walked in the 3rd inning with one out, leading to the Lions 2nd run of the game. The Knights had a chance to score in the 1st inning, getting a walk from Benicio Lujano but he was stranded at 2nd base. They had a runner at 3rd in the 3rd but Andrews struck out two straight batters to end the threat. Des Moines Christian added a run in the 4th, then blew it open in the 5th , scoring 4-runs on three hits with the Knights helping them with an error and a walk. Kuemper walked five batters and hit three more for the game. Couple that with five errors and the Knights gave Des Moines Christian plenty of extra chances. The Lions nearly put the game away in the 6th inning, scoring two runs and leaving a runner at 3rd with a 9-0 lead. The Lions defense began to struggle when Andrews left the game in the 6th with 2-outs. They made 3 errors over the final 1 1/3 innings. Kuemper stranded runners on 2nd and 3rd in the 6th then got things going against Miles Trenkamp in the 7th. Josh Langel broke the no-hitter with an infield single to start the 7th. Mason Knerl walked and Tristan Janson reached on an error. The Lions made two errors on the Janson play, allowing a pair of runs to score in Langel and Knerl. Aaron McDermott grounded out but scored Janson and Kuemper was down 9-3. Benicio Lujano doubled with 2-outs, Ethan Loew walked, John Boes was hit-by-pitch, Evan Loew walked to score a run. Josh Langel singled for his second hit, pulling Kuemper within 9-5 with the bases loaded and 2-outs. Des Moines Christian changed pitchers, bringing in Jack Schmaltz who ended the game with a fly ball to right field.
Josh Langel went 2-4 with an RBI and scored a run. Benicio Lujano doubled. Ethan Loew took the loss, going 4 1/3 innings, allowing 5 hits and 4 earned runs.
The Knights start the season 0-1 and will host Treynor on Tuesday.

Audubon struggled to get hits on Monday in their season opener, finishing with one hit, but they held West Central Valley to 3-hits. What hurt the Wheelers was walks and hit-by-pitches. They allowed seven walks and hit five batters. That helped West Central Valley build a 5-0 lead after the first-two innings. Adam Obrecht settled in the 3rd and 4th innings, holding the Wildcats scoreless. West Central Valley was able to take advantage of extra baserunners in the 5th, scoring 5-runs to end the game.
Brody Schultes had the Wheelers only hit, going 1-2, Adam Obrecht walked twice. Obrecht took the loss on the mound, going 4 innings, allowing 2 hits and 5-earned runs. He struck out 8, walked 4 and hit 3.
The Wheelers open the season 0-1 and will host Griswold on Tuesday on 93.7 KKRL.

Coon Rapids Bayard left one slip away to open the season on Monday. They dropped the first game of the varsity doubleheader, allowing 4-runs in the top of the 7th inning. The Crusaders spoiled a great start on the hill by Cal Heydon, going 5-innings with 14 strikeouts to go with no hits and a pair of walks. Coon Rapids Bayard able to build a small lead with Jace Baker driving in a pair of runs on a single and Cal Heydon doubling to score a run. Coon Rapids Bayard tried to rally but wasn’t able too in the bottom of the 7th.

Coon Rapids Bayard rallied back in game two, cruising to a win with Cade Behrens, Parker hays and Ty Heydon all having nice offensive games. Cade Behrens had a nice performance on the hill as the Knights used three different pitchers, that combined to allow 1 hits with 8 strikeouts and 4 walks. Max Shirbroun earned the win on the hill. Cade Behrens had a nice offensive game, hitting a pair of doubles and driving in 3-runs. Parker Hays doubled and hard a pair of singles, while driving in a pair of runs. Ty Heydon doubled twice with one of them scoring 3-runs.
The Crusaders sit 1-1 on the season and will head to Ankeny Christian Academy.

The IKM-Manning Wolves open the 2024 season with a win at home over Glidden-Ralston. Both starting pitchers were excellent. Offense was hard to come by through the first five innings of the game. Through the first four innings, each team had a runner on base but were unable to push a run across the plate. In the second inning, IKM-Manning had runners in scoring position, but Blayce Nelson of Glidden-Ralston worked out of a one-out jam to keep the game scoreless. Nelson struck out seven batters throughout the game.
IKM-Manning scored the game’s first runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Karsyn Lorenzen started the inning by reaching on a hit-by-pitch. Lorenzen would come around to score on a single by Kasche Huehn. Jace Starman recorded a two-RBI double in the inning as the Wolves would take a 4-0 lead going to the sixth. Glidden-Ralston responded in the sixth with two runs. Blayce Nelson, Colby Wallace, Mark Lensch, and Jonathan Bergmeier all recorded a hit in the inning. Glidden-Ralston would trail 4-2 going to the home half of the sixth.
IKM-Manning extended its lead in the home half, scoring three more runs to take a 7-2 lead. The Wildcats needed runs in the top of the seventh. Glidden-Ralston recorded four walks in the inning, but that would not be enough, as they went on to lose 7-3. With the win, IKM-Manning moves to 1-0 to start the season. Glidden-Ralston falls to 0-1. The Wildcats are back in action Wednesday at home against Carroll. The Wolves return to the diamond against Underwood next Tuesday.
