Carroll controlled the game for three quarters on Thursday night but couldn’t put ADM away. ADM edged in front for the first time in the 4th quarter and didn’t relinquish the lead as they outscored Carroll 22-13 in the 4th quarter, advancing to the Sub-State final on Monday against Bondurant Farrar. Carroll out worked ADM on the boards and on the defensive end in the 1st half, building an 11-point lead in the 2nd quarter. A 4-0 run by ADM to close the 1st half, gave them some momentum at half. Neither team had a good offensive 3rd quarter but Carroll held a 2-point lead heading into the 4th. ADM, which hit one 3 in the 1st half, got going from behind the arc in the final 8:00, hitting four of their eight 3’s as they took a 40-37 lead on a 3, adding two more down the stretch and closing the game out with three free throws.
Stone Sibenaller gave Carroll a 3-0 lead to start the game and Jared Mohr made it 6-0 with a pair of free throws. Carroll struggled making shots early but controlled the offensive glass, grabbing 9 in the 1st half. That energy helped them take an 8-2 lead on a bucket by Payton Wardell. ADM pulled with 10-9 but Mac Collison gave Carroll a 12-9 lead at the end of the 1st quarter. Evan Hammer scored three straight baskets for Carroll to start the 2nd quarter as they build an 18-9 lead. Stone Sibenaller made it 20-9 as Carroll held their biggest lead. An ADM 3, cut it to 20-12 but Caden Lengeling put Carroll up 22-12. ADM drained another 3 but Noah Hinneres made a free throw and Carroll was up 23-15 and in control. A Will Schultes 3 late in the half put Carroll up 26-16 but ADM responded with the final 4-points of the half.
Neither team could get much going in the 3rd quarter as Carroll didn’t score until the 3:30 mark on a basket by Evan Hammer. That put Carroll up 28-24 as they held ADM to 4-points over the first 4:30 of the 3rd quarter. A pair of Mac Collison free throws put Carroll up 30-24 but ADM answered with a 3. An Evan Hammer bucket extended the lead to 32-27. ADM hit another 3 to end the 3rd, down 32-20. Carroll stretched the lead in the 4th with a Hammer basket and a Mac Collison banked in 3 near the end of the shot clock. Carroll was up 37-30 but ADM went on a 10-0 scoring run, tying the game at 37, then hitting a 3 to grab their first lead of the game. Hudson Lorensen, Adam Bryte and Rhylan Stine Smith all had big 3’s in the 4th quarter for ADM. Evan Hammer stopped the run with a basket and Carroll was down 40-39 but ADM hit another 3, then added a free throw for a 44-39 lead. Carroll pulled within 44-41 but ADM went on a 5-0 run to lead 49-41. A Mac Collison basket cut the Carroll deficit to 49-43 but they wouldn’t get any closer.
Evan Hammer paced Carroll with 17-points and 9 rebounds. Mac Collison added 9-points and a pair of steals, Stone Sibenaller scored 7-points and Carter Essick finished with 4 rebounds.
The loss ends Carroll season at 12-11.
