Denison Schleswig 59

Denison Schleswig hit 3-3’s early and Lance Arkfeld was able to pull down a few offensive rebounds as the Monarchs built a 11-4 lead around 3:30 into the game. From that point on the Carroll Tigers controlled the game, outscoring the Monarchs 14-5 to end the 1st quarter and 20-8 in the 2nd quarter, blowing the game open as they cruise to a 19-point win in a game they led by as many as 28-points. They withstood the early onslaught by Denison Schleswig, waiting for the Monarchs to cool down. The defense created turnovers and Carroll was able to get out and run, getting easy transition baskets. The game was never really in doubt after the first few minutes of the 2nd quarter.

Evan Hammer kept Carroll close early, then a host of players began to connect as Carroll went from down 11-4 to up 15-13. Hammer cut it to 11-6 and Payton Wardell cut it to 13-8. Hammer scored again, pulling Carroll within 13-10, then Will Schultes hit a 3, tying the game at 13. Evan Hammer scored giving the Tigers their first lead at 15-13. Derek Fink answered on the other end with a 3 and Denison Schleswig led 16-15. That would be their last lead of the game and their last made 3 in the 1st half. Stone Sibenaller drained a 3, giving Carroll an 18-16 lead at the end of the 1st quarter. Hammer and Carter Essick scored to start the 2nd quarter for Carroll as the Tigers started the 2nd quarter with a 9-0 run, going up 27-16 on a 3 from Stone Sibenaller. The Monarchs pulled within 28-21 late in the half but Carroll went on a 10-0 run to push the lead to 38-21 before Luke Wiebers hit three  free throws to cut the Tigers lead to 38-24 at half.

Carroll made sure the Monarchs didn’t get any momentum to start the 3rd as Evan Hammer hit a pair of free throws and Caden Lengeling and Jared Mohr scored, pushing the Carroll lead to 44-24. Mohr, Payton Wardell and Stone Sibenaller helped Carroll with another run, this time a 14-1 run, pushed the lead to 60-32 late in the 3rd. Both teams were called for a good number of fouls in the 3rd as the game got physical and intense. The Tigers led 62-37 at the end of 3rd and were able to sub in some players late in the game.
