Carroll At Lewis Central
Lewis Central 49
Carroll 32
Carroll rallied in the 2nd half, pulling within 12-points in the 4th quarter but the rally fell short as Lewis Central held on for a Class 4A Region 8 Semifinal on Saturday night. The Tigers were down by as many as 27-points in the 1st half after struggling on the offensive end with turnovers and missed shots. Lewis Central controlled the boards in the 1st half, especially on the offensive end, helping them take a commanding 31-6 lead at half. Carroll looked like a different team in the 2nd half, being more aggressive, taking good care of the ball and winning the rebounding battle. The Tigers played extremely hard in the 2nd half and pulled within 42-30 on a Katelyn Aden three in the 4th quarter. Lewis Central stemmed the tide with a three on their next possession and were able to stretch the lead down the stretch.
Lewis Central jumped out to a 13-0 lead in the 1st quarter as Carroll turned the ball over and hurried shots on the offensive end while the Titans were able to get offensive rebounds for 2nd and 3rd chance opportunities. Olivia Rowedder put Carroll on the board with around 3:00 left in the quarter and scored again a few moments later to pull Carroll within 15-4 at the end of the 1st quarter. The Titans opened the 2nd quarter, scoring 16-points in a row to lead 31-4 before Carly Menken scored before half to make it 31-6 at half.
Carroll took the momentum from the Menken basket late in the 1st half and dug down during halftime, knowing they didn’t want the Titans to build on their lead. Carroll played well to start the 3rd with baskets from Carly Menken, Olivia Roweder and a pair of free throws from Mollie Feld. They pulled within 33-12 but the Titans went on a 6-1 run to go in front 39-13. Chloe Kock scored for the Tigers twice to end the 3rd quarter with Carroll down 40-17. Sophia Tidgren drained a three to start the 4th quarter, pulling Carroll within 40-20. After a Titan basket, Katelyn Aden hit a free throw, Carly Menken scored inside and Aden drained a three, then hit another three. Aden pulled Carroll within 42-30 with a free throw and Olivia Rowedder kept the Tigers in striking distance with under 3:00 to play, cutting the deficit to 45-32. Lewis Central hit a big three after the Aden free throw that seemed to stem the momentum Carroll had gained. The Titans closed the game with a basket and a pair of free throws.
Olivia Rowedder paced the Tigers with 9-points while Katelyn Aden scored all 8 of her points in the 4th quarter to go with 3 steals. Carly Menken added 6-points and 5 rebounds while Sophia Tidgren added 4 rebounds.
The Tigers end their season 12-10.
