State Wrestling Results for Kuemper, East Sac and South Central Calhoun for Friday Evening Session, February 16th
Charlie Veit of East Sac and Brock Nattress of South Central Calhoun advanced through Friday 4th round consolations, allowing them to wrestle on Saturday. Veit began the night at 144-pounds against Mark Gant. Veit was able to build a big lead with several takedowns. Gant was able to counter a few times but never got Veit in trouble. Veit built a 13-3 lead, then got a win by fall at 5:31. That win clinched Saturday for Veit. Brock Nattress of South Central Calhoun was next up at 150-pounds. He took on Taven Moore of Riverside. Nattress was up early but trailed 4-3 in the 3rd period. He was able to escape to tie the match, then got a take down with 0:14 left and held on for a 6-4 win.
Jake Irlbeck of Kuemper squared off with a familiar foe in Owen Laughlin of Shenandoah. Irlbeck had his best match against Laughlin, keeping within striking distance. He trailed 4-2 when he got in on a shot, getting the single leg. He tried to get Laughlin flipped but wasn’t able to do so and ran out of time, falling 4-2. Bryce Wiskus of Kuemper faced off with Tate Haffner of Southwest Valley at 190-pounds. Wiskus took an early 2-0 lead but trailed 3-2 at the end of the 1st period. Haffner was able to use his strength to getting Wiskus down and earn back points. Wiskus picked up a late reversal on a nice roll but wasn’t able to get back points. He let Haffner go, needing to get takedowns but was unable to and fell 9-4.
Charlie Veit came back out for 5th round consolations but had to medical forfeit and will wrestle for 7th place on Saturday. Brock Nattress had a rematch of his 2nd round match against Carter Metcalf of Pleasantville. Metcalf was a strong wrestler and earned a win by fall at 4:42 against Nattress.
