Brincks Exteriors Sports Report: Kuemper, ESC and SCC All Advance Wrestler to Friday During Thursday Evening Session

State Wrestling Results for Kuemper, East Sac and South Central Calhoun on Thursday, February 15th

The Carroll area sent four wrestlers into Friday’s evening session with Kuemper advancing two and East Sac and South Central Calhoun both having one qualify. The wrestlers combined to go 8-6 in matches, finishing 5-3 in 2nd round consolations, 0-1 in quarterfinals and 3-2 in 3rd round consolations.

Caleb Hoffman of Kuemper started the evening with a tough loss against Connor McLaughlin of Denver. McLaughlin was able to snap past Hoffman, taking him down and winning by fall in 1:21. Hoffman wrapped up a terrific season. Bradyn Burns of East Sac came out with a lot of energy, working well on the bottom, able to work his way into a win by fall to end the 2nd period against Jackson Colsch of Hudson. Burns moved into the 3rd round consolations against Trey Ramer of Durant. He had a chance late in the 3rd period to get back points but wasn’t able to and trailed in the final few moments and had to get extra aggressive and take risks. Burns lost by fall at 5:43. His win in the 2nd round consolations was his 150th of his career.

Brock Nattress of South Central Calhoun picked up a pair of wins on Thursday. He held on for a 10-6 win over Isaac Messamaker of Moravia in the 2nd round consolations, after building a strong lead. Nattress came back with another quick start against Conner Jacobsen of Ridge View, earning a 7-5 win to advance to Friday’s 4th round consolations. Jake Irlbeck kept the run going in the 2nd round consolations, then earned a second win of the day in the 3rd round consolations. Irlbeck scored a late takedown with back points with 0:04 left to beat Brogan Lake of Hinton in the 2nd round consolations. He followed that with a 3rd round consolations win over Owen Milder. Irlbeck started well and held on to advance to Friday’s 4th round consolations. In a matchup of two local wrestlers, it was Tate Bieret getting a quick takedown of Naylan Gulbranson at 165-pounds. Bieret advanced into the 3rd round consolations with a win by fall in 1:18. Gulbranson had a strong season for South Central Calhoun. Biert battled hard in his consolation match, falling 3-1 to Hunter Sauer of Alburnett.

Bryce Wiskus had a quick shot and takedown in his 2nd round consolations, winning by fall over Michael Fuller of ACGC in 0:52. Wiskus earned his second win of the day and second come from behind win late to win his 3rd round consolations. He led 2-0 early against Ryan Wirtz of Emmetsburg, then fell behind 7-2 and 9-4 before rolling over and getting a win by fall at 4:51. He advances to Friday morning. Charlie Veit will also wrestle on the backside on Friday in the 4th round consolations. He led the number two ranked wrestler Boden White of Denver 4-0 in the quarterfinals. White was able to slowly pull get a lead, using a 5-point move to go up 5-4 on his way to a 10-4 win. Veit wrestled really well and looks poised to make a deep run this weekend.

Charlie Veit, Brock Nattress, Jake Irlbeck and Bryce Wiskus will all wrestle on Friday night. If they win their first match, they are guaranteed to medal.
