The Coon Rapids-Bayard Crusaders pick up their 20th win of the season to advance to a district final next week in Fort Dodge. The Crusaders started the game on fire as Aubrey Hofbauer knocked down three threes in the first quarter. CRB opend the game on an 8-0 run and would lead 13-3 going to the second quarter. Throughout the game, Breeley Clayburg was a force on the offensive and defensive glass for the Crusaders. CRB would grow their lead to 16-5 early in the second quarter. The offense would struggle for the Crusaders the rest of the quarter as HLV would go on a 7-0 run to end the quarter. Coon Rapids-Bayard would lead 16-12 at the half. The Crusader’s defense shined in the first half and kept the same pace in the second half. To start the third quarter, CRB grew their lead back to double digits with a 22-12 lead. The Crusaders would go on an 18-0 during the third quarter and would lead 37-15 going to the fourth. CRB led the whole second half by double digits. HLV would cut it to 14 points late in the fourth quarter, but CRB would go on to win 40-26.
Malia Clayburg continued her great postseason play in the win Friday night. Clayburg finished with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Aubrey Hofbaurer also recorded 13 points for the Crusaders. Breeley Clayburg recorded a team-high 15 rebounds while chipping in nine points offensively. As a team, CRB recorded 39 rebounds.
With the win, Coon Rapids-Bayard improves to 20-3 on the season. This marks the Crusader’s first 20-win season in over a decade for CRB. The Crusaders advance to take on Newell-Fonda in the district final on Wednesday in Fort Dodge.
