The IKM-Manning Wolves season comes to an end Thursday night. The game ended up starting late as they had to fix the nets in the gym before the game. The Wolves went on a 6-0 run when the game started. MMRCU answered with a run of their own to take the lead 12-6. IKM-Manning made a three at the end of the first quarter but trailed 12-9 going to the second. MMRCU was up 16-13 early in the second quarter before going on a 5-0 run to extend the lead to 21-13. The lead would keep growing as MMRCU led 34-19 at the half, in the third quarter, IKM-Manning outscored MMRCU. IKM-Manning cut into the lead 45-32 going to the fourth quarter. The Wolves kept cutting into the MMRCU lead. IKM-Manning cut it to nine at 54-45 with four minutes left. MMRCU would make free throws down the stretch as they would go on to win 67-50.

Ross Kusel scored a team-high 25 points for the Wolves. Ben Ramsey was the team’s second-leading scorer with 14 points. Lane Sams pulled down a team-high six rebounds. With the loss, IKM-Manning ends their season at 13-10.

Both teams played tremendous defense in what turned out to be an overtime thriller on Thursday in Coon Rapids. The Wheelers had the lead early and late but the Crusaders were able to control the overtime, picking up a win that moved them into the District Final. The Wheelers were able to hold the Crusaders in check early with strong defensive effort from Carson Wessel and a terrific effort from Aaron Olsen. Edward Miller protected the rim with 8 blocked shots. The Wheelers built a 7-0 lead and led 9-5 after the 1st quarter. It could have been bigger but the Crusaders were forcing Edward Miller to fight for good looks as well. Bryce Lewis came off the bench in the 2nd quarter, igniting the Crusaders offense with 3-3’s, giving them the lead for the first time in the game. They went up 21-19 at half. Audubon rallied back in the 3rd quarter getting a late bucket to lead 36-33 entering the 4th quarter. The Wheelers held the lead late, up 43-39 with 2:46 to play. Coon Rapids Bayard cut it to 43-32 with 1:10 to go and tied the game at 43 with 0:25 left. Audubon had a chance to win it but the game went into overtime after a great defensive stand by Coon Rapids Bayard. Coon Rapids Bayard got a key three from Caden Oswald in the 4th quarter and he came up big for them again in overtime, helping the Crusaders rally for a 7-point win. 

Cal Heydon led the Crusaders with 21-points while him and Cade Behrens both had 11 rebounds. Behrens added 8-points. Bryce Lewis had 9-points while Caden Oswald added 9-points, 5 rebounds and had a great defensive game. 

The Wheelers were led by 17-points from Austin Christensen and 11-points with 8 blocks from Edward Miller. Oliver Deist gave them an outside threat with 9-points. 

The Crusaders improved to 19-4 and will take on Madrid in Jefferson on Tuesday. The game will be broadcast on the CB Sports Network. Audubon ends their season at 8-14.

The Kuemper Knights keep their season alive with a home win over South Hardin Thursday night. The game was a game of runs. Kuemper started the first quarter hot, but South Hardin closed the gap as the Knights would lead 18-15 to the second quarter. The Knights’ offense continued their hot start in the second quarter as they scored 21 points. The defense for Kuemper in the second quarter was better, as they held South Hardin to ten points. The Knights would lead 39-25 at the half. Kuemper would lead by 12 going to the fourth quarter at 53-41. The fourth quarter was the highest-scoring quarter for Kuemper. The Knights scored 25 points in the quarter as their lead would grow. Kuemper would go on to win 80-57.

As a team, Kuemper had four players in double figures. The Knights also knocked down 11 threes from behind the arc. Carter Putney was the main offensive threat for the Knights, as he scored a team-high 17 points. Putney also knocked down 5 of his six three-point attempts. Michael Kasperbauer was Kuemper’s second-leading scorer with 16 points. Carson Kanne dished out a team-high eight assists. Kanne also chipped in 12 points for the Knights. Kuemper did an excellent job rebounding the basketball as they recorded 34 as a team. Brock Badding was the fourth Kuemper player in double figures with 11 points.

With the win, Kuemper improves to 18-3 on the season. The Knights advance to take on South Central Calhoun on Monday in the District 11 final.

The game started back and forth, but SCC pulled away halfway through the first quarter to pick up a playoff win at home. SCC knocked down 11 threes in the game and shot 50 percent from the field. The game was tied once at two. SCC shot the ball well in the first half, knocking down seven three-pointers. The Titans took an 18-9 lead going to the second quarter. In the second quarter, the SCC offense kept the hot start going. Gavin Batta knocked down two straight threes to start the quarter as SCC would grow their lead. The Titans would lead 37-18 at the half. In the first half, SCC’s zone defense was outstanding, holding Eagle Grove to nine points in each quarter.

The third quarter was the highest-scoring quarter for the Titans. Cole Higgins scored seven straight points in the third quarter as SCC would extend their lead. Keegan Soard also picked up his play in the third quarter, scoring six points and pulling down multiple rebounds. SCC would lead 58-32 going to the fourth quarter. The Titan’s lead grew to 32 points in the fourth quarter. Eagle Grove would cut into the SCC lead in the fourth quarter and cut it to 14 points with three minutes left in the game. The Titans would go on to win 74-55.

Cole Higgins scored a team-high 24 points for the Titans. Gavin Batta chipped in 16 points for SCC. All of Batta’s points came in the first half. Keegan Soard Pulled down a team-high 17 rebounds. Soard was also the team’s second-leading scorer with 23 points. As a team, SCC pulled down 41 rebounds. Batta and Higgins each hit four threes and combined for eight of the 11 made in the game. Andrew Anderson passed the ball well, dishing out a team-high eight assists.

With the win, SCC improves to 17-5 on the season. The Titans advance to take on Kuemper in the regional final on Monday.

The East Sac County Raiders continue their great season with a home win in the District 15 semifinals in class 2A. The Raiders started the game with a bang as they opened the game on a 13-2 run. ESC would lead 24-12 at the end of the first quarter. The Raider’s defense in the first half was perfect, as they held a high-scoring team to only 19 points. ESC led 37-19 at the half. The Raiders would keep a 20-point lead for most of the second half. ESC went on to win 63-46.

The Raiders were led in scoring by Luke Wright, who scored 21 points. Caleb Eichorn and Ryan Clair also scored in double figures for ESC. They both scored 14 points for the Raiders. As a team, the Raiders shot 56 percent from the field. Eichorn went 6-6 from the field. The Raiders pulled down 27 rebounds as a team. Wright recorded a team-high 14 rebounds for the Raiders. Sam Julin dished out a team-high six assists in the win. With the win, the Raiders improved to 18-4 on the season. East Sac County advances to the 2A District 15 final on Monday against Underwood.

Carroll At Harlan-Regular Season

Carroll closed out the regular season in style, rolling on the road at Harlan as they prepared to enter the postseason on Monday. The Tigers were in control most of the game, getting a great defensive game from Stone Sibenaller. That allowed the Tigers to get in transition and they shot the ball well from deep. Will Schultes knocked down 3-3’s off the bench. The Tigers kept Harlan’s inside game in check, holding Reisz to 6-points. 

Carroll led 18-11 at the end of the 1st quarter, then stretched it in the 2nd quarter, going up 37-17 at half. Carroll was consistent all night on offense, scoring between 18-23-points in all four quarters. They had two players in double figures but five players scored between 5-9-points. 

Stone Sibenaller had a team high 20-points with Payton Wardell adding 15-points and 6 rebounds. Will Schultes finished with 9-points while Jared Mohr had 8-points, 6 assists and 6 rebounds and Caden Lengeling had 7-points. Blake Molinsky added 6-points and Evan Hammer had 6-points, 5 assists, 6 rebounds and 3 blocked shots. 

The win improves the Tigers to 12-9. They head to Denison Schleswig on Monday on KIKD 106.7 to open District play.
