IKM-Manning was outstanding on defense to start the game, allowing them to get out and run and build a double digit lead. Offensively they attacked the rim on the drive, taking advantage of their guards ability to attack. West Monona starting hitting a few shots in the 2nd quarter and IKM-Manning lost intensity on defense, started settling for shots from the outside and West Monona went on a 12-3 to pull within 2 at 20-18. The Wolves responded with a 7-2 spurt to end the half, then blew the game open in the 2nd half with multiple runs. Justin Segebart was everywhere on defense and Ross Kusel had a strong defensive 1st half and nearly set a new career high with a dominant offensive 2nd half.
Ross Kusel had two early baskets sandwiched around a Justin Segebart bucket and IKM-Manning jumped out 6-0. After a West Monona three, the Wolves responded with baskets and free throws from Ross Kusel, Brock Kusel and Justin Segebart, extending their lead to 17-6. Brock had a bucket and a free throw in the run while Ross scored 4-points and Justin added 4-points. The Wolves were up 17-8 at the end of the 1st quarter before the Spartans started the 2nd quarter on a 8-3 run. A quick timeout for the Wolves settled them back in, attacking the rim and closing the quarter on a 7-2 run with baskets from Justin Segebart, who hit a clutch three, that gave them momentum back. It was their first-three of the game. Lane Sams added a pair of free throws and Ross Kusel scored late to put the Wolves up 27-20 at half.
The game changed early in the 3rd quarter with Ross Kusel leading the Wolves on a 9-0 run, putting them up 36-20. Kusel had 7-points in the run and Miles Nuzback added a bucket. IKM-Manning kept up the pressure as Ross Kusel went on to score 23-points in the 2nd half. The Wolves defense was dominant in the 2nd half, holding the Spartans to 4-points in the 3rd quarter and 8-points in the 4th quarter. The lead grew to as many as 29-points, twice in the 2nd half.
Ross Kusel paced the Wolves offense with 33-points while adding 4 steals. Justin Segebart was amazing on defense with 7 steals and getting his hands on at least ten more plays, keeping the Spartans from getting into a rhythm on offense. Segebart added 12-points with Lane Sams scoring 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Brock Kusel played well off the bench with 5-points, 3 steals and 3 assists.
The Wolves improved to 13-9, having won ten of their last thirteen games. They head to MMCRU on Thursday.

The Ar-We-Va Rockets season ends in an exciting back-and-forth ball game Monday night. Ar-We-Va got their offense going in the first quarter as they jumped out to a 6-2 lead over Alta-Aurelia. Alta-Aurelia would tie the game up at six. The rest of the first quarter would be back and forth as both teams traded the lead several times. Ar-We-Va led 11-10 before Alta hit a late three in the first quarter to take a 13-11 lead going to the second. The Rockets started the second quarter slowly as Alta-Aurelia would grow their lead to 25-15. The ten-point lead led to an Ar-We-Va timeout. Coming out of the timeout, Ar-We-Va closed the quarter on an 11-6 run. The Rockets still trailed at the half. 31-26 at the half.
Coming out of the locker room, both teams started slow on offense as the game picked up in intensity later in the game. Ar-We-Va would trail by five going to the fourth quarter 43-38. The Rocket’s best offense quarter was the fourth quarter. The Rockets scored 20 points in the quarter. Emmett Neumann was huge in the second half for Ar-We-Va. The Rockets were down for most of the quarter but kept chipping away at the Alta-Aurelia lead. On three straight possessions, Neumann converted on opportunities in the paint. Neumann hit a free throw late in the game to give Ar-We-Va a 58-55 lead. Alta-Aurelia had the ball with ten seconds left and knocked down a three-point shot to send it to overtime tied 58-58. Ar-We-Va struggled to run their offense in overtime. Alta-Aurelia jumped out to a 63-58 lead. Blayne Smith hit a deep three late in overtime to cut it to a two-point lead for Alta at 63-61. Alta-Aurelia hit some free throws late and walked away with a 67-61 win in overtime.
Emmett Neumann was the Rockets leading scorer with 21 points. Neumann pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds as well. Tyson VonGlan was excellent off the bench defensively for Ar-We-Va. VonGlan also recorded 11 rebounds. Blayne Smith was the Rockets second leading scorer with 13 points. Harley Molina chipped in 11 for Ar-We-Va. With the loss, the Rockets season comes to an end at 12-10.

The Audubon Wheelers go on the road and pull off an upset in their opening-round playoff game Monday night. The game started back and forth. Edward Miller for Audubon scored the team’s first nine points as he hit three layups and a three. Panorama would lead 15-11 going to the second quarter. Wheeler’s defense improved in the second quarter, holding the Panthers to only seven points. The Wheelers cut into the Panorama lead, going into the locker room. The game would be tied 22-22 going into the half. Both offenses were great at the start of the second half. The Wheelers held on to a one-point lead, 36-35 going to the fourth quarter. Panorama started the fourth quarter on a 9-2 run to jump out to a 44-38 lead. Audubon chipped away at the lead. Aaron Olsen made a layup with 33 seconds left in the game to put the Wheelers up 49-48. The lead would grow to 51-48 as Miller made two free throws with 25 seconds left in the fourth quarter. Down by three, and with the ball, Panorama hit a three to tie the game 51-51 with five seconds left. Audubon got the ball on the last possession. Edward Miller hit a free throw line jumper to win the game at the buzzer for the Wheelers. The final scorer was 53-51.
The game was tied five times and had six lead changes. The largest lead of the game was six points for both teams. Edward Miller was the leading scorer for the Wheelers with 29 points. Aaron Olsen was the team’s second-leading scorer with 15 points. With the win, Audubon improves to 8-13 on the season and advances to play Coon Rapids-Bayard on Thursday.

Coon Rapids Bayard came out quick and put the game away early, pounding the ball to the rim, hitting 63% from the field, though they struggled from beyond the arc. The Crusaders took good care of the ball, turning it over six times while collecting eleven steals. The Crusaders were just as sharp on the defensive end, holding the Tigers to less than 10-points in three quarters and to 3-points in the 3rd quarter. They led 28-7 at the end of the 1st quarter, extending the lead to 46-19 by half. Coon Rapids Bayard came out of the halftime locker room with the same energy, outscoring the Tigers 22-3 in the 3rd to send the game into continuous clock.
Cal Heydon led three Crusaders in double figures with 21-points with Ty Heydon adding 14-points, Cade Behrens 13-points and Caden Oswald and Lucas Obert both scoring 9-points. Kolby Culbertson added 7-points to go with 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Cal Heydon had a team high 9 rebounds with Ty Heydon adding 7 rebounds and Cade Berhrens and Lucas Obert both having 5 rebounds. Caden Oswald dished out 8 assists and had a team high 4 steals.
The Crusaders improved to 18-4 overall and will host Audubon on Thursday on 93.7 KKRL.

A Wildcats had a slow start to the game, struggling to rotate on defense and unable to find a flow on the offensive end. Even with the struggles, they stayed close, down 13-10 at the end of the 1st quarter. Turnovers hurt in the 2nd quarter as CAM picked up the physicality on the defensive end. That allowed the Cougars to extend their lead to 30-17 at half. Glidden Ralston turned it up a notch to start the 2nd half, chipping away at the deficit but a late push by CAM extended their lead back to 11 at the end of the 3rd quarter. Jonathan Bergmeier had a big 2nd half, scoring 17-points as the Wildcats got within 8 in the 4th quarter but weren’t able to get any closer as CAM pulled away down the stretch.
Jonathan Bergmeier paced the Wildcats with 24-points with Colby Wallace adding 9-points and Emmett Snyder with 5-points.
The Wildcats end their season at 8-14.
