A dominant 2nd half on defense allowed Carroll to take control late as they earned their fourth straight win and fifth win their last six games. The Tigers were a little flat on defense in the 1st half as Denison Schleswig was able to get shots at the rim off screens in the post and were getting open looks outside when the Tigers helped inside. The Tigers looked leg weary having played three games already in the week. They hung tight in the 1st half thanks to three 3’s from Katleyn Aden and Chloe Kock battling hard inside. The Tigers came alive in the 2nd half, starting on the defense end. They took away the open looks for the Monarchs from the perimeter and forced contested looks inside. The allowed them to get out and push the ball, setting up their inside game with Carly Menken and Olivia Rowedder having big 2nd half’s.
The game went back and forth early, changing lead four times by the time Denison Schleswig took a 7-6 lead. Katelyn Aden hit an early three and Carroll led 3-2. Chloe Kock added a free throw but Denison Schleswig hit a three to lead 5-4. Aden responded with a basket, putting Carroll up 6-5 but Denison Schleswig went on a 7-0 run that ended with Katelyn Aden hitting a three at the buzzer to end the 1st quarter with Carroll down 12-9. Olivia Rowedder cut it to 12-10 to start the 2nd quarter but the Monarchs pushed it to 14-10, then 17-11. Katelyn Aden knocked down another three and Olivia Rowedder scored to make it 17-16. Chloe Kock pulled the Tigers within 20-18 at the half.
Carly Menken tied the game for Carroll to start the 2nd half and Olivia Rowedder gave them a 22-20 lead. Chloe Kock put Carroll up for good at 24-22 and Rowedder extended it 26-22. A pair of Ali Kock free throws and a bucket from Sophia Tidgren extended the Tigers lead to 30-23 but Denison Schleswig cut it to 30-25 to end the 3rd quarter. Ali Kock gave Carroll at seven point lead early in the 4th and Katelyn Aden extended it back to eight with a three. Carly Menken hit free throws, giving Carroll their first double digit lead at 10. The Monarchs cut it to 8 but Carroll continued to extend the lead with points from Carly Menken and Ali Kock as they went on to outscore Denison Schleswig 30-15 in the 2nd half.
Katelyn Aden had a team high 14-points while Carly Menken chipped in with 12-points and 5 rebounds. Olivia Rowedder had a team high 9 rebounds and 7-points and Ali Kock added 7-points. Mollie Feld had 5 assists and 4 steals and played a very good floor game.
The win improves Carroll to 10-7 overall as they head to Gilbert on Monday on 93.7 KKRL.

South Central Calhoun won their second straight game, rallying in the 4th quarter to send the game to overtime before dominating overtime for the win. The Titans hit the glass well, pulling down 44 rebounds, helping them get second and third chance opportunities. They had 11 assists on 16 made baskets, shooting 34% from the field and 33.3% from three. They trailed 10-7 at the end of the 1st quarter and were down 24-15 at half before starting their comeback. They held Spencer to 6-points in the 3rd, cutting the deficit to 30-27. They tied it in the 4th quarter with a 15-point outburst, then pulled away in overtime.
Bre Patterson and Brenna McAlister were dominant on the inside. Patterson had 19-points and 10 rebounds while McAlister finished with 14-points and 9 rebounds. Blair Schleisman finished with 9-points and 5 rebounds and Mia Babcock added 7 rebounds with Adlen Wheelock pulling down 5 rebounds.
The win moves South Central Calhoun to 7-13 on the season as they prepare to host East Sac on Tuesday on KIKD 106.7.
