Carroll battled back after a slow 1st half with a dominant 3rd quarter but they struggled in the 4th quarter as Dension Schleswig outscored them 20-9 in the 4th quarter, pulling away in the final minute to hand the Tigers their sixth loss in their last seven games. Carroll had a few chances late in the game down one and had several shots go halfway down and come back out. Carroll finished the game 3-9 from the free throw line while Denison Schleswig entered the game shooting 59% from the line and knocked down 14-19 with most of those in the final minute.
Caden Lengeling hit a three and Payton Wardell scored to give Carroll a 5-3 lead early as the game went back and forth with four lead changes and three ties in the 1st quarter. A Mac Collison three gave Carroll an 8-7 lead but Denison Schleswig answered, building a 15-10 lead late in the quarter. Collison scored again late in the quarter and the Tigers trailed 17-14 going to the 2nd quarter. Caden Langeling cut the deficit to 17-16 and and Collison tied it with a free throw. After a Monarch basket, Lengeling hit his second three and Carroll ed 20-19. Denison Schleswig answered again, going up 21-20 on their way to a 28-20 lead. Carroll closed the half on a 4-0 run with baskets from Evan Hammer.
The 3rd quarter belonged to Carroll with Jared Mohr getting on the board to start them off. Evan Hammer pulled them within 30-28 and then gave them a 32-30 lead. Payton Wardell scored to make it 34-30 Tigers but Denison Schleswig hung tight with a three, then took a 35-34 lead. Carroll went back ahead as the lead changed hands three times in the quarter but Carroll held a 41-37 lead having outscored the Monarchs 17-9 in the 3rd. Denison Schleswig went on a 6-0 run to start the 4th and led 43-41 but Evan Hammer tied the game at 43 and Caden Lengeling gave Carroll the lead at 45-43. Payton Wardell scored to make it 47-43 but Denison Schleswig answered with an 8-0 run and led 51-47 with just over a minute to go. An Evan Hammer free throw pulled Carroll within 51-48 and Jared Mohr scored inside, cutting it to 51-50. Carroll had two shots go in and out, down one and Denison Schleswig was able to hit free throws down the stretch as Carroll went cold and had a few turnovers.
Payton Wardell played with great energy all game, leading Carroll with 16-points and 8 rebounds along with 4 steals. Evan Hammer had a big 2nd half, finishing with 13-points and 8 rebounds. He added 4 nifty assists. Caden Lengeling gave Carroll a third player in double figures with 10-points. Jared Mohr added 7 rebounds and Mac Collison had 6-points.
Carroll falls to 9-8 on the season as they prepare to head to Gilbert on Monday on 93.7 KKRL.

South Central Calhoun earned their third straight win, jumping out early and maintaining their lead to knockoff Spencer in a nonconference matchup. The Titans shot 40.4% from the field with three players in double figures but hit 9-26 from three with 14 assists on 21 made baskets. They built a 18-10 lead at the end of the 1st quarter and led 33-24 at half. Spencer pulled within 8 at the end of the 3rd quarter.
Cole Higgins had a big game offensively, hitting 4-9 from three, finishing with 27-points to lead the Titans. He added 5 rebounds. Gavin Batta scored 13-points, making 3-4 from the free throw line and Andrew Anderson added 11-points on 3-7 shooting from three. Keegan Soard had a team high 10 rebounds and Bryce Berquist added 6 rebounds.
The Titans improved to 15-4 on the season and will host East Sac on Tuesday on KIKD 106.7.
